Senior Controls Engineer- Press Maintenance

Primary Job Function:
The Senior Engineer – Stamping Press Maintenance is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of stamping press equipment and related systems. This role leads preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives, provides advanced technical troubleshooting, drives continuous improvement efforts, and supports production goals by minimizing downtime and maximizing equipment efficiency.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Equipment Reliability & Performance
  • Ensure maximum uptime and performance of stamping press equipment (mechanical, hydraulic, servo, transfer, tandem, and progressive systems).
  • Develop, implement, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Lead press rebuilds, major repairs, and equipment upgrades.

2. Advanced Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis

  • Provide technical expertise in diagnosing complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and control system issues.
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis (RCA) and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Support rapid response during critical equipment downtime events.

3. Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimization

  • Identify and implement reliability improvements to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Improve spare parts management and maintenance planning processes.
  • Support capital improvement and automation enhancement projects.

4. Technical Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to maintenance technicians.
  • Collaborate with production, tooling, quality, and engineering teams to optimize press operations.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new stamping equipment.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and external service providers.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • A machine or tool background.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical presses (200–2000+ ton preferred).
  • Experience with hydraulic systems, PLC troubleshooting, and automation systems.
  • Proven experience leading maintenance teams or major equipment projects.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Mechanical press systems (clutch/brake, flywheel, crankshaft, slide adjustments)
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens preferred)
    • Servo feed systems and coil handling equipment
    • Die protection systems and press controls
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Results-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.
