Senior CSSD Technician (Ophthalmology)

Job Purpose:

To ensure safe, effective, and timely reprocessing of ophthalmic surgical instruments, maintaining the highest standards of sterilization to prevent postoperative infections, especially endophthalmitis.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise all CSSD activities related to ophthalmic instruments including cleaning, inspection, packaging, sterilization, and distribution
• Ensure strict compliance with infection prevention protocols specific to eye care procedures
• Handle delicate microsurgical instruments with extreme care
• Ensure proper cleaning using approved enzymatic detergents suitable for ophthalmic instruments
• Inspect instruments under magnification for cleanliness, damage, or residue.
• Monitor and document sterilization cycles
• Perform routine biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring of sterilizers
• Maintain strict segregation of clean and dirty areas to avoid cross-contamination
• Coordinate closely with Operation Theater (OT) staff for surgical lists and urgent requirements
• Train CSSD staff on handling fine ophthalmic instruments and updated sterilization protocols
• Report and manage sterilization failures, instrument damage, or infection control breaches

Required Qualifications:

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology / CSSD / Allied Health Sciences
• Specialized training or certification in CSSD (preferred)
• 3–5 years of CSSD experience, preferably in an ophthalmology setup
• Experience with handling microsurgical instruments

Skills & Competencies:

• In-depth knowledge of ophthalmic instrument reprocessing
• Strong attention to detail (critical for small, delicate instruments)
• Leadership and team supervision skills
• Good coordination with OT teams

Working Conditions:

• Hospital / Eye care facility
• High responsibility role due to infection risk in eye surgeries
• Requires strict adherence to PPE and aseptic protocols
