The Senior Data & Applied Scientist will serve as a critical bridge between our attorneys and in-house legal innovation and technology teams, playing a pivotal role in driving the firm’s adoption, design, and integration of transformational technologies for both client-facing and back-office solutions.
This highly collaborative position demands a blend of technical expertise, project management acumen, data science capability, and strategic vision for emerging AI and legal technology. This role will lead the evaluation, piloting, and operationalization of new tools and AI-driven solutions, ensuring our firm remains at the forefront of legal innovation and client service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
AI & Data Science Leadership
Design, develop, and manage predictive analytics models and AI solutions tailored to legal practices and business operations.
Evaluate, select, and implement advanced machine learning, natural language processing, and data mining techniques to improve workflows and outcomes.
Analyze legal and business datasets to identify actionable insights that support attorneys, practice groups, and business teams.
Innovation & Technology Integration
Conduct research on legal technology trends, emerging platforms, vendor evaluations, and applicable best practices in AI and innovation.
Lead the assessment, benchmarking, and deployment of new legal technologies (AI, document automation, contract analysis, collaboration, and research tools). Maintain thorough documentation of each prototype and experiment. This should include design specifications, methodologies, and any modifications made during the process.
Serve as a subject-matter expert on AI capabilities and emerging platforms; educate and train peers, attorneys, and staff.
Collaborate with IT, legal operations, and innovation committees to pilot, iterate, and scale technology solutions.
Attorney & Client Enablement
Liaise with attorneys and internal departments to understand their needs and tailor technology solutions to business-specific requirements.
Provide user training, adoption support, and measure impact/ROI for practice technology projects.
Support client-facing innovation initiatives and technology-enabled client service delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Business Analytics, or related field. JD, MBA, or Master’s in Library Science (MLS) preferred.
5+ years’ experience in a law firm or professional services innovation, technology, data analytics, or legal operations environment.
Strong proficiency in data science and analytics tools (Python, R, SQL), and experience with legal research and AI-driven platforms (Westlaw, LexisNexis, Relativity, etc.).
Demonstrated experience leading or supporting AI/ML, analytics, or legal technology projects from concept to completion.
Excellent communication skills, with proven ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Strong collaborative mindset, ability to manage cross-functional projects, and a passion for driving change in a dynamic legal environment.
Experience with legal document automation, e-discovery, and innovation management platforms.
Familiarity with compliance, privacy, and security standards in professional services and legal tech.
Experience managing pilot programs, technology assessments, and vendor relations.
