Position Title: Senior Data Architect
Location: Corporate IT Department Coeur d’Alene or remote (Canada, US West of Rockies – ID, WA, OR, MT, CO, NV)
Reports To: Vice President of IT
Position Summary: Hecla is transforming current ad-hoc Excel-based reporting to a unified Microsoft Fabric data platform serving four active mine sites. We need a Senior Data Architect to architect, implement, and own this greenfield analytics platform – initially working alongside our current team of consultants, then assuming full platform ownership for long-term evolution. This is a rare opportunity to develop greenfield architecture based on modern tooling, with strong executive sponsorship, multi-year funding, and direct operational impact across mining operations. You'll move Hecla from reactive reporting to proactive visibility - enabling predictive analytics and operational optimization long term.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Position:

Lead architectural design and implementation of Microsoft Fabric platform using the Medallion Architecture (Bronze-Silver-Gold)

Design dimensional models and Power BI semantic layers for operational analytics

Partner with company leadership to translate operational pain points into technical requirements

Establish enterprise KPI definitions enabling cross-site comparisons while respecting site-specific needs

Assume full platform ownership post-consulting engagement—responsible for operations, optimization, troubleshooting, and evolution of the analytics platform

Build internal analytics capabilities through active mentorship, recruiting assistance, and knowledge transfer during consulting engagement

Navigate multi-site data integration across heterogeneous systems

Collaborate with Analytics Steering Committee to prioritize use cases, manage roadmap, and communicate progress to executive stakeholders

Support data governance policies using Microsoft Purview to ensure compliance, security, and standardized KPI definitions across sites

Design strategies for integrating real-time operational data from OT systems and transactional on-premise systems into the Fabric platform

Ensure the platform is designed for scalability and performance to support predictive analytics and future AI-driven initiatives

Integration Sources: IFS Cloud/Apps9, Ellipse, eMaint, Sage 300, PI System, Excel/CSV

Patterns: Medallion Architecture, dimensional modeling, semantic layer design, data governance
Qualifications:

5-8 years implementing modern cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, or Snowflake with at least one end-to-end implementation
Experience with progressive data refinement patterns (e.g., Medallion Architecture: Bronze Silver- Gold layers).

Dimensional modeling experience (Kimball/Inmon) with practical application

Strong Power BI semantic modeling and DAX with enterprise datasets, not just reports

Hands-on development experiences with data pipelines, ETL/ELT patterns, and production operations

DevOps for analytics: Git, CI/CD, automated testing, environment management

Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to executives and build trust with operations leaders
Preferred Qualifications

Microsoft Fabric hands-on experience or deep Azure data platform expertise (Synapse, Data Factory, Data Lake)

Microsoft certifications (Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate)

Mining, manufacturing, or process industry background

Experience with real-time data collection infrastructure or operational technology (OT) integration

Platform ownership experience beyond initial implementation (supporting and evolving production systems)
Work Requirements
Travel: 10-20% of travel may be required, depending on business need.
