About IMI

Established in 1987, International Materials (IMI) is one of the world’s leading privately owned bulk raw materials trading companies, serving global customers across cement, construction, steel, and related industries. From sourcing materials to chartering vessels and delivering products directly to customers, IMI manages every step with precision, reliability, and a strong service-driven culture. With more than 170 employees across 11 international offices, long-term supplier partnerships, and an integrated global presence, we have built a reputation for technical expertise, personalized customer service, and the ability to support partners through complex supply chains.

We’re looking for a highly experienced Senior Data Engineer to join IMI’s IT team and take ownership of our enterprise data architecture. You will design, build, and maintain IMI’s centralized data platform, enabling the organization’s expanding needs in reporting, analytics, automation, and AI/ML readiness. This is a high-impact role with direct influence on IMI’s long-term data strategy and data architecture direction.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will own and manage IMI’s Microsoft Fabric / OneLake environment, integrating data from multiple internal and external systems (NetSuite, SharePoint, IMI-built applications, and third-party platforms via APIs). You’ll ensure that the company’s data is structured, governed, secure, and fully optimized for business insights across a global trading organization.

  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of IMI’s enterprise data platform using Microsoft Fabric and OneLake.
  • Build, automate, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines with Data Factory or Fabric Pipelines for internal, external, and API-based data sources.
  • Develop and optimize Power BI data models, dataflows, and semantic layers to power analytics, reporting, and executive dashboards.
  • Integrate REST APIs, external systems, and third-party applications to expand data accessibility and drive automation across the business.
  • Implement and enforce data governance, quality controls, lineage, and metadata management.
  • Manage Azure cloud environments, ensuring scalability, cost efficiency, and strong security practices.
  • Serve as the technical lead for IMI’s data foundation supporting AI and ML initiatives—ensuring datasets are structured and ready for model training and intelligent automation.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into scalable, reliable data solutions.
  • Document architecture, pipelines, integrations, governance standards, and operational procedures.

  • Strong proficiency in SQL, DAX, Python, and ETL/ELT pipeline development.
  • Hands-on experience with REST APIs, webhooks, JSON/XML integrations, and external system connectivity.
  • Deep understanding of Azure cloud architecture, including Key Vault, data security, networking concepts, and cost optimization.
  • Solid knowledge of data governance, lineage, data quality, and metadata management frameworks.
  • Experience integrating ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and other enterprise applications.
  • Strong communication skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Familiarity with AI/ML data preparation or supporting ML-ready dataset creation.
  • Experience with Power BI (semantic models, DAX, dataset design, dataflows).
  • Small language models.
