About the Role
Nextcap Enterprises is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial risk modeling and a deep passion for transforming complex data into actionable business insights. You will be responsible for the end-to-end development of predictive models and scorecards, ensuring our business strategies are data-driven and effective.
Must-Have Skills
- Degree in Statistics is mandatory.
- 5 years of solid experience in Credit Risk Modeling and Financial Risk Modeling is mandatory.
- Please note: We are specifically seeking candidates with deep modeling experience and will not consider those with only Analyst or Data Management backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Analysis & Model Development
- Business Translation: You must be able to translate a business problem into a statistical one, identifying the most suitable modeling and analysis techniques to provide actionable insights.
- Data Expertise: Extract and prepare data from various sources, demonstrating strong knowledge of databases. Perform complex data processing, including merging, sorting, and data transformations.
- Profiling & Insight: Use a combination of business knowledge and statistical techniques (e.g., data visualization, statistical tests, data mining) to identify risk segments, behavioral trends, and opportunities for up-selling and cross-selling.
- Modeling: Apply standard and cutting-edge techniques, including statistical modeling, predictive analytics, machine learning, and optimization, to build and validate models.
Model Scoring & Application
- Integrate developed models into the scoring process.
- Continuously improve models based on performance feedback.
Communication & Coordination
- Work with a consultative mindset to gather requirements from stakeholders and present complex insights and model algorithms clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Skills
- Tools: Extensive experience with statistical tools such as R, Python, VBA, and Excel.
- Modeling: Proven experience in statistical modeling techniques including, but not limited to, Univariate and Multivariate Regression, Time Series Forecasting, Logistic Regression, Clustering, Decision Trees, and Scorecard Development.
- Practical Experience: Hands-on experience with risk scorecards, predictive modeling, and machine learning.
- Data Handling: Ability to extract, clean, and prepare data from databases for modeling.
Education
- Graduate/Post Graduate degree in Statistics or Data Science is preferred.
