Position Title: Senior Director, People & Culture

Job Summary: The Senior Director of People & Culture, Operations will oversee the daily operations and strategic execution of HR programs and processes across Essen’s growing healthcare network. This individual will partner closely with leadership, clinical operations, and administrative teams to ensure HR policies, staffing, employee relations, and compliance practices are effectively supporting the organization’s mission and business objectives.

This is a critical leadership role that requires a blend of strategic thinking, operational excellence, and hands-on leadership in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

HR Operations Leadership

  • Oversee the daily HR operations function, ensuring consistency and compliance across all sites and departments.
  • Lead and mentor P&C managers, business partners, and support staff to deliver efficient, high-quality HR service delivery.
  • Evaluate and optimize HR workflows, systems, and processes to improve efficiency and employee experience.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Operations on workforce planning, budgeting, and headcount management.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Serve as a senior point of contact for complex employee relations matters, investigations, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and healthcare-specific regulations.
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance to maintain and implement HR policies and procedures that align with organizational standards.
  • Maintain audit readiness and support external and internal compliance reviews.

Strategic Partnership & Change Management

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, translating organizational goals into actionable HR initiatives.
  • Lead change management efforts in support of business transformations, and process enhancements.
  • Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives that align with Essen’s values

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management or director-level role.
  • Proven experience leading HR operations within healthcare, multi-site, or unionized environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HR compliance, New York State labor laws, and healthcare credentialing processes.
  • Demonstrated success in employee relations, policy development, and process improvement.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with a collaborative, hands-on management style.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms (e.g., NetSuite, iCIMS) and data-driven HR reporting
