Job Summary
The Senior Architectural Draftsman plays a critical role in preparing, reviewing, and managing structural drawings and documentation for building and infrastructure projects. This position requires advanced technical expertise in CAD/BIM software, strong collaboration with engineers and architects, and the ability to ensure compliance with local and international codes. The role also involves mentoring junior draftsmen, coordinating across departments, and delivering accurate, high-quality drawings within project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed structural drawings, plans, and layouts for construction projects using CAD/BIM software.
- Develop accurate drawings for structural components such as beams, columns, foundations, and slabs.
- Collaborate with structural engineers, architects, and project teams to understand requirements and specifications.
- Coordinate with draftsmen and other departments to ensure consistency across project documentation.
- Maintain organized records of drawings and revisions, updating them as per project changes.
- Prepare and review technical documentation in compliance with local and international building codes.
- Conduct regular checks to identify and rectify discrepancies or errors in drawings.
- Assist in preparing material take-offs and quantity estimates.
- Provide technical support and clarify design intent during the construction phase.
- Collaborate with on-site teams to resolve design-related queries.
- Incorporate feedback and revisions from engineers or architects into drawings.
- Update and modify existing drawings to reflect scope changes.
- Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards in drafting work.
- Utilize advanced drafting tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM software.
- Stay updated with the latest drafting techniques and software to improve efficiency.
- Deliver high-quality drawings and documentation within project deadlines.
- Manage multiple assignments effectively, ensuring timely completion.
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in structural drafting, preferably in construction or consultancy firms.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, or other BIM software.
- Strong knowledge of structural systems (steel, concrete, composite).
- Familiarity with international codes and standards (ACI, AISC, BS, Eurocodes).
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce precise technical drawings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills for coordination across disciplines.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Experience in mentoring junior draftsmen and leading drafting teams is an advantage.
