Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-driven Senior Electrical Designer to support the design and fabrication of control systems in accordance with UL508A standards. This position is responsible for translating engineering concepts into fabrication-ready designs and detailed drawing packages, while working closely with engineers, project managers, and shop personnel.


The ideal candidate will bring deep experience with AutoCAD, electrical design standards, and fabrication practices. This is a hands-on role where attention to detail, practical design application, and collaboration across teams are critical to success.


Essential Responsibilities & Duties


Design & Drafting

  • Develop UL508A fabrication drawings with minimal oversight.
  • Create One-Lines, Panel Boards, P&IDs, Power Supply Cabinets, and Control Cabinets.
  • Prepare as-built and redline drawings for fabricated equipment.
  • Support Engineering Change Notice (ECN) and Design Change Notice (DCN) processes.

Collaboration & Problem-Solving

  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Incorporate shop feedback into designs to ensure manufacturability and accuracy.
  • Contribute to constructability solutions and support field installation challenges.
  • Provide guidance to shop staff during assembly and wiring of UL508A cabinets.

Mentorship & Development

  • Assist with the training and development of entry-level drafters.
  • Share expertise in drafting standards, drawing quality, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Drafting or Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant design experience.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Experience managing high volumes of drawing files within complex projects.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain government security clearance (required for federal contract work).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing equipment and control systems for DOE or Hanford projects.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and machining processes (welding, cutting, tolerances).
  • Familiarity with Creo, SolidWorks, SmartPlant, or other 3D modeling tools.
  • Prior experience preparing ECN/DCN packages and fabrication drawings.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, SmartPlant, and Microsoft Office.
