Senior Electrical Engineer (Data Centres)

Working closely with the Management team, Senior Project Manager and Engineer team of the MEA and APAC region. This role requires the employee to work closely with Senior Managers, Technical teams and PM’s of the MEA and APAC region on the delivery of Kent Data Centres critical facilities professional services and consulting.

With a sound knowledge of data centre MEP infrastructure, the candidate will support the growth of the business in the region. Alongside carrying out engineering and consulting a key aspect of the role are pro-active client engagement and business development for new projects.

You will be required, but not be limited to coordinate and review electrical design drawings, material submittals, method statements and other documentation submitted as part of the project package.

You will be required to provide your technical feedback on queries from the client and project team in correlation with the project requirements to assist with coordinating the construction contractor’s deploy the works in line with local authorities and the customer’s requirements.

You will be required to deploy your skills for installation inspections with the construction team and their contractors and carry out detailed reviews to make sure that the installation is up to regulatory standards and meets client requirements.

You will be required to work closely with the Kent Data Centres Design Manager for all electrical-related works for the assigned project and will report directly to him.

Your role will also consist of preparing and tracking inspections as they progress and carrying out inspections for the electrical system testing and commissioning works.


Responsibilities

  • To be responsible, along side the senior mechanical engineer, for the delivery of complete design packages and projects. This includes:
  • Time and resource allocation/management of design team activities
  • Direct contact with client teams and their consultants
  • Management of client expectations
  • Regular project, risks and updates reported to senior management
  • To produce designs for data centre electrical systems, including; LV Distribution, Generator, Transformer & UPS systems.
  • Electrical design calculations, sizing, discrimination studies and analysis.
  • To produce electrical single line schematics both for sales documentation and for build drawings
  • To produce specifications for critical part of electrical installations
  • Create and issue electrical specifications to contractors
  • To develop the electrical systems including developing all necessary drawings, technical submissions, calculations and descriptions of operation to construction standard.
  • To liaise with all sub-contractors and ensure that all drawings are issued with all required information.
  • To check and approve material submittals with respect to Technical Design
  • Providing technical support for incoming enquiries and queries
  • Study tender documents and understand client requirements to be able to put together the technical response to tender bids, proposal and quotations
  • Evaluate client enquiries, specification and drawings
  • Contribute to bid/no bid decision
  • Formulate technical and commercial response with assistance and guidance from other departments as required
  • Prepare and participate in the review of and submit Technical and part of the Commercial responses to the highest standards of accuracy, presentation, and punctuality and in accordance with company standards and client requirements
  • Prepare and participate in the review of and in the submission of technical and commercial clarifications and revised bid documents as required through the tendering process
  • Maintain a full and accurate record during and after the bid submission
  • Attend client, supplier and third-party meetings on and offsite as necessary
  • Work with Design Department to hand over contracts won by the company
  • Understanding / knowledge of electrical equipment’s, financial aspects and technical risk
  • Report and communicate activities effectively and appropriately.
  • Conduct site surveys to put together the reports
  • Engage directly with consultancy (Data Centre audits, best practice etc)
  • Work both within office environment and onsite
  • Confidently deliver Kent Data Centres critical infrastructure professional services offering across the complete project lifecycle
  • Following on site consultancy, prepare reports, present findings and provide a road map for change (appropriately detailing level of risk and opportunity for improvement)
  • Work together with the Director and Critical Infrastructure Consultant of the Middle East and other company departments to develop innovative solutions.
  • Work closely with other areas of the business and key staff to overcome complex client requirements


Candidate Experience and Qualifications

  • More than 10 years of Electrical Experience
  • Qualified (BEng or similar above with Electrical engineering degree or similar)
  • Working knowledge of Uptime Tiers & TIA 942-B – ATD preferred
  • Experience with Data Centre multi MW Installations
  • Good communicator, both in writing, on the telephone and face to face with customers
  • Excellent work ethic and proactive individual
  • Capable of working under own initiative and as part of a team
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Very good skills in Autocad
  • Know how to work on Amtech and ETAP
  • Competent in MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
  • Able to prioritise tasks and manage time, to meet tight project deadlines
  • Good technical and proposals and submittals management
  • Good technical review ability
  • Ability to understand detailed schematic designs
  • Willingness to travel in the region
