Position Overview

Responsibilities

  • Partner with other electro-optical engineers through all phases of new product development and new product introduction.
  • Responsible for developing functional test software architectures, methods, requirements, and executable code for calibrating and testing new state-of-the-art undersea communication equipment.
  • Collaborate with the design engineers to conceive, set-up, and run experiments to test new fiber optic amplifiers, ROADM, and high voltage equipment designs and firmware operation.
  • Devise and refine accurate and reliable electro-optic test methods, test systems, and procedures. This work will involve data acquisition, equipment/platforms, test equipment, automation, and the development of software for certification of subsea products in a production environment.
  • Later in the design phase, be involved in the transfer of new products, software, and certification methods into our manufacturing center, while collaborating with production engineers and equipment designers.
  • Provide troubleshooting skills to investigate both hardware and software issues as necessary.
  • Support continuing process improvements and value engineering actions to reduce manufacturing costs.

Qualifications

  • Experience with leading teams of multidiscipline engineers is a desired skill set.
  • Able to clearly understand written test methods and translating them into modular test executables, to include robust exception handling
  • Ability to code with C.
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python is a plus
  • Experience with SQL is a plus
  • Experience in development and use of test equipment drivers.
  • Experience with git source control is a plus
  • Experience developing software that interfaces directly with equipment and/or product hardware (as opposed to pure GUI/ web interface software)
  • Experience/knowledge of GPIB, Ethernet, RS-485, I2C command/control.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic amplifiers, ROADMs, lasers, communication systems,
  • Hands-on experience with optical and electrical test methods, use of optical connectors, programmable optical power meters, attenuators, switches, optical spectrum analyzers, digital multi-meters, DAQs and oscilloscopes is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze measurement data to extract parameters and performance metrics is a must.
  • Familiarity with quality processes for developing, manufacturing, and testing high reliability products including characterization and calibration processes, and error of measurement studies for test equipment is a must.
  • Ability to multitask, good organizational skills, computer literacy, and a demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment with other test software and hardware developers is a must.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, as well as presentation, planning, organization and facilitation skills
  • Previous experience in developing test and measurement solutions for electrical and optical components or subsystems, qualifying new products or test systems for manufacture, supporting new product introduction to manufacturing, developing software interfaces for automated test equipment, debugging complex test systems.
  • Developing software in Windows environments, use of development environments like Visual Studio, LabWindows/CVI, test executive environments (NI-TestStand), familiarity with issue tracking systems like Jira, are also strongly desirable capabilities.
