QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION

Who we are?

MRC Türkiye is an independent engineering and consultancy company based in Ankara, serving the energy sector since 2009. With 160+ professionals, we deliver end-to-end services across generation, transmission, distribution, energy markets, and energy efficiency, covering the entire project lifecycle from strategy to implementation.

Our track record spans over 25 countries, including Türkiye, Central Asia, Caucasus, South Asia, Middle East, West and Sub-Saharan Africa. We support governments, system operators, regulators, and private investors through power sector master plans, market modelling, demand forecasting, grid planning, smart grid deployment, and investment advisory — combining technical depth with practical, on-the-ground experience.

As a certified R&D Center and long-standing METU TEKNOKENT member, we have a strong record of delivering IFI-supported projects for system operators, regulators, ministries, and private investors — including Power Sector Master Plans, market modelling, demand and price forecasts, grid studies, and decarbonization roadmaps. We help clients make robust, data-driven decisions that strengthen system reliability and support the energy transition in Türkiye and beyond.

About the Role

MRC Türkiye is seeking an experienced Senior Energy Market Consultant to join our growing Market Modeling & Analytics team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a professional who wants to work at the forefront of power system decarbonization, market development, and cross-sector integration.

In this role, you will design and deliver market simulations and scenario-based analytics for a wide range of stakeholders — from government agencies and regulators to utilities, IPPs, traders, and lenders. You will contribute to critical deliverables such as long-term generation expansion plans, unit commitment and dispatch studies, price forecasting, portfolio decarbonization pathways, bankability analyses, and short-term dispatch and trading strategies.

This position plays a central role in developing advanced power market models using tools such as PLEXOS, TIMES/MARKAL, GAMS, etc. to provide critical insights—such as long-term price forecasting, capacity mix evolution, and cross-border power flows—that inform commercial, regulatory, and planning outcomes.

Main Responsibilities

Market Modelling & Advanced Analytics

  • Develop and run advanced electricity market models (PLEXOS, GAMS, TIMES/MARKAL, etc. ) for short-term dispatch, price forecasting, medium-term risk, and long-term expansion planning.
  • Deliver decision-ready outputs: hourly price curves, dispatch results, capacity expansion pathways, system adequacy, and flexibility gap analysis.
  • Simulate congestion and redispatch risks using integrated grid and market models.
  • Design scenario-based resilience tests for fuel shocks, carbon pricing, or interconnector constraints.

Client Engagement & Advisory

  • Advise clients on assumptions, methods, scenarios, and interpretation of results.
  • Lead investment-grade analyses for feasibility, siting, bankability, pricing, and decarbonization plans.
  • Support trading and operations teams with short-term forecasts, bidding strategies, and revenue optimization.
  • Deliver on-site secondment support and tailored training for internal capacity building.

Strategic Contribution & Thought Leadership

  • Contribute to national and regional studies, including IRPs, master plans, Net Zero roadmaps, and sector coupling.
  • Represent MRC Türkiye at industry forums, working groups, and stakeholder events.
  • Track emerging technologies and regulatory trends to strengthen modelling capabilities.

Collaboration with Commercial and Product Teams

  • Provide technical input for proposals and innovative service design.
  • Help evolve MRC’s proprietary datasets, tools, and decision dashboards.
  • Engage clients to showcase the value of integrated modelling and analytics.

Skills and Qualifications

What we’re asking:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, industrial engineering, energy systems, or related fields (master’s degree is a plus).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the energy sector, preferably with a focus on electricity market modelling, power system planning, or commercial analytics.
  • Knowledge of electricity markets, dispatch and unit commitment modelling, generation expansion planning, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of Türkiye’s electricity market structures, regulatory framework, and market operations (e.g., EPİAŞ, TEİAŞ, balancing and day-ahead markets).
  • Hands-on experience with simulation tools such as PLEXOS, BID3, GAMS, Antares, TIMES, etc. is a strong advantage.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; ability to translate complex modelling outputs into clear, actionable insights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A collaborative mindset, curiosity for innovation, and a strong sense of ownership.
  • Flexibility to travel within Türkiye and internationally as needed.
