JOB PURPOSE
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement of all mechanical systems, machinery, and plant equipment. The role involves supervising maintenance activities, leading improvement projects, ensuring safe operations, and supporting production through timely engineering solutions.
Plan, execute, and supervise preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance for mechanical equipment.
Ensure optimal performance and uptime of machinery such as pumps, compressors, conveyors, blowers, boilers, gearboxes, packaging lines, and processing systems.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for mechanical failures and implement corrective measures.
Monitor equipment health and implement reliability improvement initiatives.
Support and lead mechanical engineering projects including equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades, and capacity enhancement.
Prepare project estimates, equipment specifications, and vendor coordination documents.
Ensure engineering drawings, SOPs, and manuals are updated and maintained.
Ensure compliance with plant safety standards, statutory norms, and mechanical engineering codes.
Conduct risk assessments (JSA/HAZOP where applicable) for mechanical operations.
Implement 5S, Kaizen, and TPM initiatives in the engineering area.
Maintain documentation for audits and inspections.
Identify opportunities for reducing downtime, maintenance cost, and energy consumption.
Optimize mechanical processes and introduce automation where feasible.
Participate in cross-functional teams for process improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
Supervise a team of technicians and junior engineers; ensure skill development and performance monitoring.
Coordinate with Production, Quality, Electrical, and SCM teams for smooth plant operations.
Manage vendor relations, AMC contracts, and spares inventory.
Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment, rotating machinery, and utility systems.
Experience in hydraulic & pneumatic systems, mechanical fabrication, and alignment techniques.
Expertise in maintenance planning tools (MTLS/PTLS) and equipment diagnostics.
Ability to read engineering drawings (GA, P&ID, fabrication drawings).
Familiarity with statutory requirements related to boilers, pressure vessels, and lifting equipment.
