SG-17 Hiring Range: $63,111-$70,000*Salary will be determined based on certifications, qualifications, and direct experience. Performs responsible fire suppression, rescue, EMS and incident response activities including operating fire apparatus as needed. An employee in this class participates in fire and medical incident response and participates in the daily operations fire station. Work includes daily station and equipment maintenance, preparation of pre-fire plans, training, response to calls for emergency medical response or firefighting and as needed, apparatus operation. The Senior Firefighter is distinguished from the Firefighter by the additional training and certifications received, especially the requirement to possess certifications driver/operator and assignment to fill in for the Engineer when needed. Work requires that the employee stay abreast of state-of-the-art fire suppression and rescue procedures, techniques, and equipment, and incorporate the necessary changes into in-service training. Ability to make effective decisions under pressure is required in all aspects of work, particularly during fire and emergency medical response. The employee is subject to the hazards associated with incident response work including working in inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold temperatures, loud noise, vibration, moving parts, high heat, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, wearing respirators, and working in close quarters. The employee is also subject to the final OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens. Work is performed under regular supervision of the assigned station’s Fire Officer and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and written reports concerning the quality and effectiveness of work completed.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Responds to major alarms and participates in incident response including medical emergencies, rescue, and firefighting; responds and participates in remediation activities of chemical spills, hazardous materials, and other related incidents; operates fire apparatus and other equipment as required; documents actions performed.Acts in the absence of the Fire Engineer, driving engines to the fire scene and operates pumps at the scene; positions the apparatus appropriately and operates pumps to maintain necessary hose pressure; tracks tools and equipment assigned to the apparatus and ensures apparatus is returned to readiness condition after returning to the fire station.Responds to emergency medical incidents and provides first responder or EMT-B services. Inspects station, and equipment for proper appearance, condition and operation; performs maintenance and cleaning of fire apparatus, equipment, station building, and related facilities; performs minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs and maintenance as needed. Visits businesses to conducts pre-incident surveys; advises homeowners on fire hazards; within level of certification conducts fire inspections; works on special assigned special projects. Performs other tasks for the purpose of public relations and assistance such as child safety seat consulting/assistance, conducting station tours and public fire education tasks in schools and other settings; participates in special projects as required.Participates in required training in a variety of fire and medical modules, to maintain certifications and increase knowledge and skills.Performs related duties as required.

Physical RequirementsMust be able to physically perform the basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Must possess visual acuity to size up the color, volume, and extent of fire involvement at fire scenes, to conduct visual inspections, to operate heavy fire apparatus in emergency situations, use a computer, and to prepare records and
