Senior Front-End Engineer (React / Next.js Micro-Frontends)

Location: India

Experience: 3+ years in front-end development

Stack: React · Next.js · TypeScript · Webpack Module Federation · SCSS / styled-jsx · Axios + OpenAPI-generated clients · Jest + React Testing Library · Playwright · Docker · Helm / Kubernetes

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Front-End Engineer to design and scale enterprise-grade web applications built as micro-frontends. This is not a "UI-only" role — you will own features end to end: architecture, typed API integration, testing, containerization, and deployment to Kubernetes.

You will work in a distributed micro-frontend platform where multiple independently deployed React/Next.js applications compose into a single product experience, backed by shared design-system and state-management packages. You are expected to be product-minded, quality-obsessed, and comfortable using AI tooling to move faster without lowering the bar.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect & build: Develop performant, accessible, type-safe applications using React and Next.js (SSR, routing, server-side data fetching, environment-driven builds) with TypeScript in strict mode.
  • Micro-frontend orchestration: Build and maintain remote/host applications using Webpack Module Federation — exposing and consuming remotes, managing shared singleton dependencies, versioning contracts, and debugging cross-app runtime issues.
  • Design system consumption & contribution: Build UIs from a shared component library and design tokens; extend it with custom, reusable components instead of one-off styling.
  • Contract-first API integration: Consume REST services through OpenAPI-generated TypeScript clients and Axios — interceptors, auth/session propagation, retries, timeouts, and robust error handling.
  • State & data flow: Manage complex application state using shared cross-application state-management packages and React patterns (hooks, context, custom hooks), keeping data flow predictable across federated modules.
  • Internationalization: Implement and maintain multi-locale support with i18next / react-i18next, including translation resource management.
  • Quality engineering: Write meaningful Jest + React Testing Library unit/component tests and Playwright end-to-end suites using the page-object pattern; keep coverage and static-analysis quality gates green.
  • Full-cycle ownership: Own the build-run-maintain cycle — Docker images, Helm charts, Kubernetes deployments, CI/CD pipelines, multi-environment configuration, and post-release monitoring.
  • Observability & support: Instrument applications with structured logging and APM/telemetry; triage production issues using logs, traces, and dashboards.
  • AI-augmented delivery: Use AI coding assistants to accelerate scaffolding, refactoring, test generation, and code review — with the judgement to validate and correct their output.
  • Collaboration & mentorship: Partner with backend, QA, UX, and product across time zones; raise the team's bar through code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

Technical Requirements

  • Core: Deep React (hooks, composition, rendering/performance) and Next.js (routing, SSR/CSR trade-offs, API routes, env-driven builds); advanced TypeScript; solid JavaScript and browser fundamentals (DOM, cookies, CORS, caching).
  • Micro-frontends & tooling: Hands-on Webpack Module Federation (remotes/hosts, shared singletons, remote-entry debugging); comfortable customizing Webpack/Babel, code splitting, and bundle analysis; experience with private npm registries and shared internal packages.
  • Styling & UI: Strong SCSS/CSS (responsive layouts, theming, CSS-in-JS such as styled-jsx), design-system driven component work, and practical accessibility (WCAG).
  • APIs, auth & security: REST integration with OpenAPI/Swagger-generated clients and Axios; OAuth2/OIDC sessions, tokens, and route guards; awareness of XSS/CSRF and sensitive-data handling.
  • Testing: Jest + React Testing Library for unit/component tests and Playwright (page objects, fixtures, CI reporting) for end-to-end automation.
  • DevOps: Docker multi-stage builds, Helm + Kubernetes on any managed cloud (AKS/EKS/GKE), CI/CD pipelines with quality gates, and strong Git workflow discipline.
  • Engineering hygiene: ESLint, Prettier, static analysis (e.g. SonarQube), and performance discipline around Core Web Vitals and bundle budgets.

Soft Skills & Values

  • Radical ownership: You don't stop at "merged." You care about the deployment, the user experience, and long-term maintainability.
  • AI-first mindset: You treat AI assistants as a force multiplier and know where to trust them and where to verify.
  • Clear communication: Strong written and verbal English; you document decisions and can explain trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Pragmatism: You balance ideal architecture against delivery timelines and legacy constraints.
  • Team multiplier: You lift others through reviews, pairing, and knowledge transfer, and you mentor mid-level engineers.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in regulated or compliance-sensitive domains (healthcare, finance, insurance) and handling of sensitive data.
  • Experience with product analytics/tagging frameworks and event instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with monorepo or workspace tooling (Nx, Turborepo) and shared tooling across many front-end repos.
  • Exposure to backend services (Node.js or Java/Spring Boot) sufficient to debug across the stack.
  • Contributions to a shared design system or internal component library.
