POSITION SUMMARY
ECRI has a rich history in Human Factors Engineering (“HFE”). HFE is a cornerstone of our future strategic goals and will be integrated into a number of new and existing product and service lines. We are looking for a Senior Human Factors Engineer (“Senior HFE”) to help: expand a new market; deliver operational excellence for our clients; deliver education; and drive a reduction in preventable harm through incorporation of HFE throughout our businesses. The Senior HFE will collaborate with other ECRI HFEs to support new patient safety initiatives and HFE-specific education, workshops and training.
Success in this role will be measured through refinement and support of HFE business offerings, and contributions to other services focused on patient safety, customer satisfaction, and driving revenue to achieve ECRI’s mission of advancing evidence-based healthcare globally. A successful candidate will embody excellent judgment, identify risks or issues early and will be able to manage multiple stakeholders. Importantly, the Senior HFE must be results driven and have a proven track record of execution and production of high-quality deliverables.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions Statement(s):
HFE-focused service offering(s):
Identify Human Factors issues with medical equipment and devices that ECRI is evaluating.
Lead, review and provide guidance on Human Factors assessments.
Provide judgements, conclusions and recommendations based on the findings of our studies.
Support human factors education, training and potential specialized certificates.
Assist in development and execution of clinically informed human factors workflow solutions which enable and promote patient safety and reduce preventable harm.
Act as HFE subject matter expert on sales and business development calls.
HFE team:
Work collaboratively as part of a team of HFE consultants and employees.
Collaborate with other ECRI departments to develop and refine new initiatives and service lines which are primarily focused on patient safety and reduction of preventable harm.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Minimum of 5+ yrs experience applying HFE to healthcare
Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering methods and deliverables
Real-world experience applying HFE
Expert knowledge of user-centered design principles and usability best practices
Ability to provide consultative services to healthcare and related executive teams, boards, and clinical teams.
Ability to develop and deliver learning and education materials.
Advanced presentation and public speaking skills
Advanced analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication
Collaborative
Concise messaging tailored to audience.
Ability to effectively work at all levels of the organization.
Education:
Ph.D. in HFE or Ph.D. in a related discipline, coupled with a certification of HFE training, is required.
Computer Skills:
Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 Suite of products (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Certifications & Licenses:
Certificate or professional certification in Human Factors or Ergonomics (unless Ph.D. is in HFE)
POSITION COMPENSATION
The salary range for new employees in this position is $92,902.52 - $105,444.36, based on background, experience, and skills. In addition, new employees in this position are eligible for all of our benefit offerings, including, but not limited to, health and welfare benefits, 403(B) retirement savings, and paid time off (PTO).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position operates in a remote environment and requires the individual to remain in a stationary position, whether sitting or standing, before a desk or other fixed workspace, most of their workday. In addition, this position requires the individual to occasionally move about their workspace to access and inspect work-related materials, such as file cabinets with physical files and standard office equipment. This position requires the ability to operate standard office equipment, including, but not limited to, a laptop, keyboard, mouse, webcam, and phone, as well as effectively communicate information and ideas to a wide variety of audiences in written and oral form.
