Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to serve as a senior-level Human Resources partner responsible for managing complex HR operations, ensuring multi-state compliance, conducting investigations, and mitigating organizational risk. This role provides hands-on execution and expert guidance across all core HR functions, with particular emphasis on employment law, employee relations, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
Job Summary:
The Senior Human Resources Generalist oversees and executes day-to-day HR functions while serving as a subject matter expert in employment law, investigations, compliance, and regulatory requirements. This role supports a geographically dispersed workforce and requires deep knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, with preferred experience in Western and Northeastern U.S. jurisdictions.
The Senior HR Generalist operates with a high degree of autonomy, exercises sound judgment in sensitive situations, and partners closely with HR leadership and operational teams to ensure consistent, compliant, and fair application of HR practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other Duties May Be Assigned):

Serve as a primary HR resource for multi-state compliance, including employment law interpretation and application.

Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including wage and hour, leave laws, unemployment, tax-related employment matters, and posting requirements.

Manage labor law postings and ensure accurate, timely updates across all locations.

Conduct employee relations investigations, including harassment, misconduct, policy violations, and workplace complaints; gather facts, interview witnesses, document findings, and provide recommendations.

Advise leaders on corrective action, discipline, and termination decisions to ensure legal compliance and risk mitigation.

Oversee unemployment claims administration, including responses, hearings, and documentation.

Support HR-related tax matters and employment verification requirements.

Administer and support HR programs including benefits, leave administration, performance management, and policy enforcement.

Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory training, certifications, and licensure requirements.

Conduct workplace safety and accident investigations and coordinate required reporting and corrective actions.

Respond to HR inquiries from employees and leaders, escalating complex matters as appropriate.

Support audits, regulatory inquiries, and internal compliance reviews.

Maintain current knowledge of employment law trends, regulatory updates, and HR best practices.
Requirements:
Principal Accountabilities:

Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure HR practices align with federal, state, and local regulations while proactively identifying and mitigating risk.

Employee Relations & Investigations: Conduct thorough, timely, and well-documented investigations with professionalism, discretion, and consistency.

Policy Interpretation & Application: Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on HR policies, employment law, and best practices.

Multi-State HR Operations: Provide accurate guidance and execution across jurisdictions, with an understanding of regional legal nuances.

Judgment & Discretion: Handle sensitive information with integrity, confidentiality, and sound professional judgment.
Skills and Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

Multi-state HR experience required; exposure to Western and Northeastern states strongly preferred.

Proven experience conducting employee relations investigations.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.

Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience required.

Senior-level generalist experience preferred.

SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR preferred.
Work Environment:
