Title: Senior HVAC Mechanic

Hourly Rate: $32 - $40
About the Position
Evergreen Goodwill is seeking a highly experienced Senior HVAC Mechanic responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC systems across multiple retail stores, warehouses, and administrative facilities. This role supports large-scale heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems that ensure safe, comfortable, and efficient environments for employees, customers, and program participants.
The Senior HVAC Mechanic performs advanced diagnostics, oversees preventive maintenance for complex HVAC equipment, and coordinates with external vendors for major repairs and system upgrades. The ideal candidate has strong experience working with commercial HVAC systems in large facilities such as retail stores, warehouses, or distribution centers.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Commercial HVAC Maintenance and Repair
  • Maintain and repair commercial HVAC systems including rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, air handling units, make-up air units, exhaust systems, and warehouse ventilation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, mechanical, airflow, and refrigeration issues affecting large building systems.
  • Repair or replace compressors, motors, belts, relays, contactors, sensors, thermostats, and other system components.
  • Inspect, test, and calibrate thermostats, economizers, and building control systems.
  • Perform refrigerant leak detection, system evacuation, and recharging in compliance with EPA regulations.
Preventive Maintenance
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC equipment across Evergreen Goodwill facilities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of rooftop units, mechanical rooms, duct systems, and ventilation equipment.
  • Replace filters, belts, bearings, and other wear components to ensure reliable system performance.
  • Identify aging or failing equipment and recommend repair or replacement strategies.
Facilities Support
  • Respond to HVAC-related work orders and service requests from stores, warehouses, and administrative offices.
  • Assist the Facilities team with mechanical system maintenance when necessary.
  • Support emergency HVAC repairs that impact store operations or building safety.
Vendor and Project Coordination
  • Coordinate with external HVAC contractors for major repairs, installations, and equipment replacements.
  • Assist with evaluating vendor work and ensuring repairs meet organizational standards.
  • Provide technical input for HVAC upgrades, replacements, and facility improvement projects.
Safety and Compliance
  • Ensure all HVAC work complies with OSHA safety requirements, EPA refrigerant regulations, and local building codes.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and equipment documentation.
  • Identify safety hazards related to mechanical systems and recommend corrective actions.

Qualifications & Experience
  • 7-10 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial HVAC systems.
  • Experience supporting large retail, warehouse, or commercial facilities strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex HVAC system issues and perform advanced repairs.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment and refrigeration systems.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical HVAC components.
  • Ability to manage maintenance across multiple facilities and prioritize service requests.
Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (required).
  • HVAC trade certification or technical training preferred.
  • Experience with building automation systems or HVAC controls is a plus.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, warehouses, and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access rooftop equipment.
  • Ability frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working on ladders or lifts.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel regularly between multiple Evergreen Goodwill locations.
  • Availability to respond to urgent HVAC issues when necessary.
