Level II – Senior Implementation Engineer
Why This Role Matters
Senior Implementation Engineers ensure that complex integrations between healthcare systems and clinical research platforms are implemented reliably and at scale. This role is critical to the success of enterprise deployments, where integrations between Electronic Health Records (EHRs), Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems, and other clinical technologies must function accurately and consistently.
By leading complex implementations, diagnosing systemic issues, and mentoring Implementation Engineers, Senior Implementation Engineers strengthen the reliability and scalability of IgniteData’s Archer platform deployments.
Position Summary
The Senior Implementation Engineer leads complex Archer implementations, designs and validates integration solutions, and serves as a senior escalation point for implementation and production issues. This role combines advanced technical expertise with cross-functional leadership to ensure reliable interoperability between healthcare systems and clinical research platforms.
Candidate needs to be available to work either PST or EST hours.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Define and maintain technical implementation standards and integration architecture principles.
- Provide architectural guidance for complex healthcare interoperability solutions.
- Lead technical decision-making across enterprise implementation programs.
- Establish best practices for Archer deployments and integration design.
- Serve as the senior technical advisor for Implementation Engineers.
Client Implementations & Integrations
- Support integrations between healthcare systems including EHR, EDC, ePRO, imaging, and laboratory systems.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple concurrent client implementations.
- Ensure integration solutions align with client technical environments and regulatory requirements.
Production Support & Escalations
- Act as a Tier 3 escalation point for complex implementation and production issues.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring integration failures or systemic issues.
- Support troubleshooting during go-live and hypercare phases.
- Triage incidents based on risk and impact and coordinate cross-functional resolution.
- Coordinate cross-functional resolution across Implementation, Engineering, Product, and Customer Success teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Operations leadership to resolve systemic technical challenges.
- Translate client integration challenges into product enhancements and platform improvements.
- Mentor implementation engineers and develop technical leadership across the organization.
Standards & Industry Awareness
- Maintain expertise in healthcare interoperability standards and emerging technologies.
- Contribute to improvements in implementation standards, tooling, and operational processes.
- Identify opportunities for automation and improved integration workflows.
Technical Skills
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
- Lead troubleshooting of complex distributed system issues including:
- API failures
- Authentication errors
- Data transformation issues
- Integration failures across multiple systems
- Perform advanced log analysis and cross-system diagnostics.
- Conduct root cause analysis for systemic or recurring integration issues..
Integration & APIs
- Strong experience troubleshooting REST API integrations and HTTP-based services.
- Diagnose authentication workflows including:
- Troubleshoot integration failures across multiple systems and endpoints.
- Interpret and validate API documentation including Swagger/OpenAPI.
- Diagnose complex integration failures across enterprise architectures.
Healthcare Interoperability
- Strong knowledge of HL7 FHIR resource structures and interoperability workflows.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex FHIR validation errors and implementation issues.
- Interpret FHIR Implementation Guides and integration specifications.
Clinical Terminologies
- Ability to map EHR data models to clinical research datasets and support eSource-to-EDC workflows.
- Experience mapping clinical data using healthcare vocabularies including:
- Ability to map EHR clinical data structures to research data models.
Cloud & Infrastructure
- Working knowledge of cloud environments including AWS or Azure.
- Understanding of healthcare cloud APIs and integration architectures.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues across development, testing, and production environments.
Experience & Qualifications
- Significant experience implementing healthcare integrations or interoperability solutions.
- Experience working with APIs, distributed systems, and system integrations.
- Experience supporting complex client deployments in healthcare technology environments.
- Strong familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 FHIR.
