POSITION OVERVIEW
Contribute to the overall success of C&R Remodeling by assisting C&R staff and clients throughout the sales, design, and production process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
DESIGN PHASE
- Conduct initial client interviews to document client's design goals, needs, and vision, develop and refine the project scope of work, and import before photos for new projects. Actively listen to the client to capture their vision and educate them on the scope of their project.
- Meet with clients in their homes or at the Company Design Studio, as needed.
- Ensure that the home is accurately measured and photographed for documentation of existing conditions. Take site measurements, photograph before photos and create or assist with as-built plans.
- Produce as-built drawings when assigned, create imaginative and practical design solutions, and prepare or assist with floor plans (sketching and/or CAD) and elevation drawings for preliminary client meetings.
- Create and/or edit bidding plans with selections, dimensions, and specifications.
- Design cabinet layouts and elevations and review with client. Upon cabinet design completion review layout designs with Design Manager to check for completeness of order. Process orders, document ordering and keep production staff informed of timelines.
- Review designs with Design Manager, Production Manager, and Estimator for construction feasibility and cost implications before presenting preliminary drawings.
- Refine and hone the preliminary plan and give the Project Manager and Estimator drawings for obtaining a preliminary estimate.
- Develop or assist as needed working drawings including electrical and mechanical plans, window and door schedules.
- Create or work with CAD designers to create 3D architectural features accurately representing existing and new design plans and create color renderings of designs as necessary. Perform or assist 3D animation walkthroughs of design plans with client and make changes as requested by client.
- Recommend or work with Design Team to select finishes, fixtures, materials, appliances, and other miscellaneous items unique to each job and assist the client in shopping at showrooms if necessary for assigned projects as well as other clients.
- Prepare contract drawings and assist with scope/contract writing as needed for Design Manager, and Estimator to finalize the Construction agreement.
- Assist or prepare permit paperwork, documents and drawings to obtain permit.
ESTIMATING & JOB PREPERATION
- Determine quantities required and budget material selections.
- Prepare tile packets/specifications for estimating and production.
- Prepare and document project specifications for Estimator and Production Department.
- Work with Estimator and Design Manager to assure required budget parameters are met.
- Work with Production Team to order materials and follow up to make sure materials arrive on time.
- Keep documentation and online systems up to date with current orders, plans and design info as needed.
CONSTRUCTION PHASE
- Visit jobs sites when necessary to resolve design issues as required. Schedule site visits for projects in construction.
- Manage site installations including meeting with trades to assure design questions are answered and design specifications followed.
- Document updates as needed for the production or job file records.
- Write Change Orders as needed.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with dependable, quality-oriented subcontractors and suppliers as needed.
MARKETING FUNCTIONS:
- Document projects pre, during, and post-construction for marketing purposes.
- Coordinate with Marking Department as needed for upcoming photo shoots.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend weekly design meetings and any company meetings that are appropriate for position.
- Work toward professional development through continuing education.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Assist with phone back up and participate as a member of the team.
INTERACTION AND ENVIRONMENT
Reports To: Design Manager
- Work areas are inside in a climate-controlled environment, with moderate background noise. Work areas will occasionally include outside work when taking measurements or going on site visits.
- Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with one half hour allowed for lunch between 12 and 1. Evening and weekend work may be necessary. Due to the nature of this position, flexibility is allowed, but daily hours should not exceed 8 hours total unless approved by Supervisor.
- Overtime is reserved for extenuating circumstances only and . Employees are required to forecast their weekly schedule and to make adjustments, thereby avoiding working more than 40 hours. All overtime must be pre-approved by Supervisor. If work cannot be completed in the 40 hour work week, discuss possible work load revisions with Supervisor.
- Time off is scheduled by submitting a Personnel Action Form to Supervisor for approval.
- All office equipment, including laptop computers are to remain in the office unless approved by supervisor or at home use or used for an on-site presentation. Equipment must be returned to the office at the earliest opportunity.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Sitting/Mobility: Approximately 70% of time is spent working at a desk. Balance of time (approximately 30%) is spent moving around work areas and going to client’s homes or job sites.
- Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, clients and outside agencies by telephone, in writing, and in person.
- Vision: Ability to effectively use a computer screen and interpret printed materials, memos and other appropriate paperwork.
- Lifting/Carrying: Ability to lift up to 40 pounds including material samples and supplies.
- Stooping/Kneeling, Reaching/Handling: Ability to bend and kneel to access files, stock supplies and take measurements as needed.
- Computer and Desk Work: Ability to sit for long periods of time working on computer or performing other desk work.
PROFICIENCIES

- Document times spent on client task in 15-minute increments on time clock or calendar and submit both at end of each week to the Design Manager.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Majority of experience would preferably be in residential architecture. Residential remodeling experience highly desired.
- Strong understanding of Building Codes & Requirements.
- Creative imagination and practical understanding of construction.
- Chief Architect or other Auto-Cad program experience preferred.
- Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Drafting skills and good "design sense" for space planning and finishes selections required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license from the State of Oregon and personal auto insurance.
- College Degree a plus.
