Senior Interior Designer

Job Summary
Grant-Mill Healthcare Solutions is seeking a Senior Interior Designer to support the VA Long Beach Healthcare System (LBVAHCS) Engineering Service. You'll work within the Interior Design Section under the VA Supervisory Interior Designer, leading design services for major construction project activations — including space planning, FF&E procurement, activation coordination, and installation oversight across clinical, administrative, and support spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Independently create and execute interior design services for offices, conference rooms, patient care and treatment rooms, waiting areas, lobbies, break rooms, and support spaces across major VA construction projects
  • Develop detailed AutoCAD designs, plans, sketches, perspectives, color schemes, and visual aids for design presentations — analyzing architectural drawings and developing FF&E plan layers
  • Interpret and review architectural plans for concurrence with the VA Technical Information Library (TIL) standards and specifications
  • Produce procurement packages following VA contracting standards: SOWs, technical specifications, IGCEs, bid sheets, budgets, drawings, and installation schedules
  • Manage financial tracking for FF&E procurement — communicating with vendors, coordinating delivery and installation schedules, maintaining control logs
  • Maintain the Interior Design Resource Library including drawings, plans, procurement documents, project correspondence, and project binders
  • Review way-finding signage plans, furniture and artwork installation plans; direct installation crews independently Identify and manage punch lists for installed items, coordinating with dealers, installers, and stakeholders to close out
  • Facilitate collaborative meetings with end users and stakeholders covering transition planning, day-in-life scenarios, move plans, departmental adjacency, patient/staff flow, infection control, and security
  • Coordinate with Contracting, Logistics, EMS, OI&T, Material Management, and Engineering services

Skills

  • Proficiency in SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit, Rhinoceros 3D (3ds Max), Bluebeam for digital drafting and project management documentation.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (required) and Microsoft Office Suite — Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (required)
  • Working knowledge of ABAAS, VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA TIL, ICC, OSHA, and NFPA
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Creative Suite for rendering presentations and visualizations.
  • Expertise in drafting technical drawings and creating detailed specifications for interior projects.
  • Experience with lighting design principles as well as lighting sales strategies for residential or commercial projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high-quality standards; excellent project management skills are essential.
  • Familiarity with contracts administration, budgeting processes, renovation procedures, construction oversight, and remodeling workflows. Requirements

All Candidates Must Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or closely related field - OR - 8–10 years of professional interior design experience (healthcare/institutional strongly preferred) A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the stated requirements.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (required) and Microsoft Office Suite — Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (required)
  • Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Skilled in freehand drawing and drawing to scale during on-site measurements
  • Familiarity with Patient Centered Care culture in healthcare environments
  • Working knowledge of ABAAS, VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA TIL, ICC, OSHA, and NFPA
  • Expertise in selection, specification, procurement, and placement of furnishings
  • Ability to pass a federal background investigation (NACI level) and drug screening
  • Negative TB screening within 90 days of assignment; annual flu vaccination or approved exemption
  • Must complete VA Cyber Security Awareness training and sign Contractor Rules of Behavior before access

NCIDQ — National Council for Interior Design Qualification

LEED AP — Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
Experience with Revit and Microsoft Project (beneficial, not required)
Prior experience designing in VA Medical Center or DoD healthcare environments
Experience with major construction project activations, equipment planning, and move management
Portfolio demonstrating healthcare interior design work

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
