Senior Interior Designer – High-End Residential (NYC Private Clients)

Francis Interiors is seeking a Senior Interior Designer / Project Manager with deep experience in high-end private residential design.

This role is for a designer who has personally led luxury NYC apartments and townhouses from concept through installation, and is comfortable owning both design and execution. Our work centers on private clients, complex renovations, and long-term relationships.

Residential interiors experience is required. This is not a commercial, hospitality, or architectural role.

This role is NOT for:

  • Architects transitioning into interiors without substantial luxury residential experience
  • Designers whose background is primarily commercial, hospitality, or retail
  • Junior or mid-level designers seeking mentorship or training

This role IS for someone who:

  • Has 7–10+ years of high-end private residential interiors experience, ideally in NYC
  • Has led projects independently from concept through installation
  • Understands construction realities, budgets, and timelines
  • Is confident managing private clients with clarity, professionalism, and discretion
  • Thrives in a small, high-expectation studio environment

Role Overview

This position acts as the bridge between creative vision and project execution, overseeing all phases of design from concept through completion. The Senior Designer serves as both Interior Designer and Project Manager, managing client relationships, timelines, budgets, and coordination with contractors, vendors, and consultants.

Reporting directly to the Principal Designer, this role also oversees junior team members as needed and ensures all work aligns with Francis Interiors’ standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign Leadership

  • Develop space plans, design concepts, and material palettes aligned with client goals and studio standards
  • Select and specify furnishings, finishes, lighting, millwork, and appliances
  • Prepare and lead client presentations with clarity and confidence
  • Oversee design implementation from concept through installation

Project Management

  • Manage project budgets, proposals, billing reviews, and timelines
  • Lead client meetings and internal project updates
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and consultants
  • Maintain alignment with the Principal throughout all project phases
  • Prepare and distribute weekly project reports

Interior Design & Interior Architecture

  • Develop interior architectural details, including millwork, cabinetry, and integrated design elements
  • Produce and oversee CAD drawings, plans, elevations, and construction details
  • Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and change orders
  • Conduct site visits and manage punch lists

Team Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with the Principal and project team
  • Delegate and review work to ensure quality and consistency
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and partners

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture
  • 7–10+ years of high-end private residential interior design experience
  • NYC luxury apartments and townhomes experience required
  • Portfolio link with recent high-end residential work, including technical drawings and client presentations
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and design software, including Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience using Studio Designer software for project management, procurement, and client proposals is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of construction and project execution
  • Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: From $95,000+ per year, depending on experience
