Senior Marine Engineer

Overview
We are seeking a skilled Marine Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical and electrical engineering, with expertise in system design and project engineering. This role is essential for the development and maintenance of marine systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Duties

  • Design & Engineering
  • Lead the design and development of marine propulsion, mechanical, and auxiliary systems for newbuild and retrofit projects.
  • Review and validate engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D models for ship systems.
  • Ensure integration of machinery with hull, piping, and electrical systems.
  • Project Management & Supervision
  • Oversee marine engineering aspects of shipbuilding projects from concept to delivery.
  • Coordinate with naval architects, structural engineers, and production teams to ensure alignment.
  • Monitor project progress, timelines, and cost control for marine systems.
  • Technical Evaluation & Procurement
  • Evaluate and select machinery, propulsion systems, and equipment vendors.
  • Prepare technical specifications, RFQs, and review supplier bids.
  • Ensure procured equipment meets class and client requirements.
  • Compliance & Standards
  • Ensure designs comply with IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and classification society (ABS, DNV, LR, BV, etc.) rules.
  • Liaise with class surveyors and flag state authorities during design approval and inspections.
  • Implement quality assurance and safety standards throughout the engineering process.
  • Construction Support & Commissioning
  • Supervise installation and alignment of machinery, piping, and propulsion systems in shipyard.
  • Provide technical guidance during construction, testing, sea trials, and commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot engineering issues during build and acceptance phases.
  • Team Leadership & Training
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction to design and production teams.
  • Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions on new technologies and regulatory changes.
  • Support continuous improvement in shipbuilding engineering practices.
  • Innovation & Sustainability
  • Research and recommend energy-efficient and environmentally compliant solutions (LNG, hybrid propulsion, alternative fuels).
  • Drive adoption of new technologies to enhance vessel performance and reduce emissions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, SolidWorks, MATLAB, and FEA tools.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and construction processes.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering concepts as they relate to marine applications.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes & standards is highly desirable.
  • Excellent project scheduling skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
