Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Reports To: Service Group Director & Director of Mechanical Engineering
I. Summary
The role of a Senior Mechanical Engineer is to provide engineering leadership for technical challenges, on projects, to clients, and within the mechanical department. Technical capabilities required of a Senior Mechanical Engineer include all engineering necessary for HVAC plants, systems, hydronic distribution, air side distribution and life safety systems.
II. Core Competencies and Responsibilities
Engineering
- Perform detailed mechanical surveys
- Perform engineering tasks and work with engineers and designers to produce projects in design
- Able to bring multiple project types to completion from design inception to construction closeout
- Review mechanical designs
- Perform Construction Administration including but not limited to site observation reports, punch list, submittals and RFI responses
- Able to troubleshoot complex field mechanical issues
- Research and prepare mechanical engineering reports for feasibility studies, life cycle analysis, and other similar reports
Client
- Understands complex mechanical engineering principals used in design and confidently discuss them with internal and external clients
- Participates in business development activities
Project Performance
- Completes engineering tasks within the project budget
- Completes engineering tasks to meet the project schedule
- Is able to provide feedback to supervisors, project managers, and principals related to project performance
- Address change orders and prepares responses to client
- Capable of estimating required engineering hours to complete a tasks and prepare corresponding engineering fees
Supervisory
- There may be direct supervisory responsibilities associated with this position
- Studio directors may assign engineers, associates or co-ops to be under your supervision
III. Technical Capabilities
- Understands and can apply hydronic piping engineering principals to systems and plants providing condenser water, geothermal, chilled water, hot water, steam, and refrigerant
- Understands and can apply design principals of hydronic systems and plants
- Understands building pressure and stack effect and can engineer systems to address building pressure including life safety systems for hoist way and stairwell pressurization and smoke control
- Creates and understands all aspects of single line diagrams
- Develop engineering sketches or schematics, layouts, details and/or drawings
- Understands and can proficiently reference and apply applicable codes
- Understands and can apply SMACNA standards to all ductwork pressure classes and type
- Able to edit Mechanical specifications
- Perform advanced building, system, and plant level HVAC calculations for complicated systems
- Research and prepare reports for feasibility studies, life cycle cost analysis and other similar reports
- Performs and demonstrates HVAC energy compliance using energy compliance software and provide supporting documentation
IV. Qualifications
Licensure
- Professional Engineering license is required

Experience
- 10+ years working in an MEP engineering consulting firm on multiple building types
- 6+ years working as a licensed professional engineer
- Project experience across multiple market segments preferred (Healthcare, Education, Commercial, Civic, Retail)
Computer Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Proficient in Autodesk Revit
