Job Summary

A consultant neurologist is a senior neurologist in the position to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of neurological conditions.

A consultant neurologist will be able to treat a range of conditions including Demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Cerebrovascular diseases including stroke.


Job Responsibilities

Diagnosing complex medical problems by referring to a patient’s history, examining them, and conducting neurological tests.

Counseling patients on neurological disorders and their backgrounds.

Ordering neurological tests and interpreting the results of neuroimaging studies.

Prescribing and/or administering treatment and medication.

Monitoring the behavioral and cognitive side effects of treatment and medication.

Ordering supportive care services for patients.

Liaising with medical professionals in the community and hospitals.

Keeping up-to-date with neurological developments, treatments, and medication.

Performing specialized treatments such as sleep disorders, neuroimmunology, neuro-oncology, behavioral neurology, and neurogenetics.

Performing and interpreting lumbar punctures, electroencephalography, electromyography, and nerve conduction velocity tests.

Where you'll mainly see patients with a chronic condition, i.e. a disease that takes a long time to develop such as Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis or diagnose rare diseases

Treat acute conditions, i.e. those that come on suddenly, such as a stroke

Offer specialist expertise and guidance to other doctors and staff from a range of medical specialties

Liaise with other medical and non-medical staff in hospital settings to ensure all of the patient’s needs are met

Keep up your knowledge of the latest treatments for neurological disorders, which have increased significantly over recent years.

Explaining procedures and discussing test results or prescribed treatments with patients.

Monitoring patients' conditions and progress, and re-evaluating treatments, as necessary.

Providing health and wellness advice to patients, including diet, physical activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.

Maintaining detailed notes of appointments with patients, including comments, tests, and/or treatments prescribed, and test results.

Referring patients to other medical specialists, when necessary.

Providing support and advice to patients receiving long-term care.

Preparing official health documents or records, when necessary.

Conducting research into the testing and development of new medications, methods of treatment, or procedures to prevent or control illness, disease, etc.

Reach an informed diagnosis based on scientific knowledge and the patient’s medical history.

Conducts rounds and undertakes supervision of treatment of the inpatients as well as screening and examination of the outpatients.

Undertakes supervisory responsibility for the medical staff within the unit and prepares regular reports on the activities of the unit for the department head/chairman.

Participates in various committees for upgrading services and organization of work within and outside the hospital.

Participates in the planning and implementation of the department development plans and the different manpower training programs for the medical, technical and nursing staff.

Prescribe and interpret lab tests to obtain more information for underlying infections or abnormalities.

Prescribe medications or drugs and provide comprehensive instructions for administration.

Collaborate with other physicians and nurses to form a high-performing medical team.

Cultivate a climate of trust and compassion for patients.

Remain up-to-speed with developments and best practices in medicine by attending conferences and seminars.

Comply with patient rights & responsibilities

Educate patient & family in the care plan process.

Usage of an electronic system for recording diagnosis.

Maintaining patient diagnostic reports in electronic format.

Appropriate usage of the patient consent form.

Patient counseling communicating the service cost before charging.

Patients have the right to concise, complete, and easily understood information about their diagnosis and treatment options, side effects, complications, and any undesirable effects and an interpreter can be provided when needed.

Follow international standards such as Lancet / Up to Date and conduct ethical medical practice.

Assures quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, and legal regulations; participating in utilization reviews, and remaining available for emergency consultations.

Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing summaries.

Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Any other task as assigned by management on a time-to-time basis as per the organization's needs.


Job Experience

Minimum 10 Years of Experience post-Board


Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Doctor of Medicine
  • Preferably Western Board in Neurology
