Senior Petroleum Engineer

The overview of job
Lead reservoir and production engineering activities for upstream oil & gas assets, optimize hydrocarbon recovery, and provide technical direction across field development, production operations and drilling programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead reservoir engineering: build and maintain static and dynamic reservoir models, perform reserves estimation, decline curve analysis, material balance and volumetrics.
  • Develop field development plans, production forecasts, and optimization strategies (EOR, infill drilling, workovers).
  • Design and support well testing, well performance analysis, production logging, and nodal analysis to diagnose and improve well productivity.
  • Provide technical input to drilling and completion programs, including well trajectories, casing/tubing design, perforation strategies and stimulation plans.
  • Monitor and optimize production via allocation, artificial lift design/selection (ESP, gas lift, rod lift) and surface facility debottlenecking.
  • Collaborate with subsea, facilities and operations teams to ensure integration between reservoir models and surface/network constraints.
  • Perform economic evaluations, risk analysis and technical feasibility studies; prepare CAPEX/OPEX estimates and support investment decisions.
  • Implement and govern data management best practices; ensure high-quality reservoir and production data for modelling and decision-making.
  • Supervise and mentor junior petroleum/reservoir engineers; coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, service companies and vendors.
  • Provide expert support during HSE-critical operations, well interventions and incident investigations; ensure compliance with local regulations and company standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or related engineering discipline; MSc preferred.
  • 8+ years upstream petroleum engineering experience with significant reservoir and production exposure; GCC experience preferred.
  • Strong technical expertise in reservoir simulation (Eclipse, CMG), well performance (OFM, Prosper), and production analysis tools.
  • Proficient with petrophysical interpretation, reservoir characterization, decline analysis and reserves reporting (SPE standards).
  • Experience with artificial lift systems, well test interpretation, production optimization and surface network modelling.
  • Familiarity with drilling and completion practices, stimulation techniques and well intervention planning.
  • Excellent data analysis skills, proficiency with Python/SQL/Excel for data manipulation and automation.
  • Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in Petroleum Engineering or related field.
  • Professional certifications or memberships (e.g., SPE).
  • Experience with field development planning, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects, and production optimization in Middle East reservoirs.
  • Knowledge of local regulatory requirements and experience working in Qatar or nearby jurisdictions.

Compensation & Benefits (example)

  • Competitive Doha-market salary + performance bonus, health insurance, annual leave and end-of-service benefits.
  • Professional development, training and relocation support where applicable.
