Mechanical & Piping Engineer (Engineering Advisory & Design)

Location: Qatar
Contract Duration: 12 months (extendable)

Job Overview

Our client, a leading multinational engineering company involved in major Oil & Gas projects, is seeking a Piping Engineer to provide engineering advisory, design, and technical support services across a range of Oil & Gas projects, including facility modifications and new developments. The role spans Concept Studies, FEED, Detailed Engineering Design (DED), and project execution phases, with extensive interaction with third-party consultants and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Advisory & Design

  • Provide mechanical and piping engineering advisory and design services for scopes of work, design basis definitions, and basic engineering deliverables.
  • Prepare conceptual designs for modifications and new facilities.
  • Author, compile, and review engineering scopes of work, design basis documents, feasibility studies, concepts, and FEED deliverables.

Concept Studies, FEED, DED & Project Deliverables

  • Review pre-feasibility studies prepared by technical teams and provide recommendations.
  • Prepare, review, and finalize Concept Studies.
  • Review and approve mechanical and piping deliverables across FEED, Detailed Engineering Design, Procurement, Installation, and Commissioning stages.
  • Ensure all consultant deliverables meet design accuracy, construction feasibility, safety, and quality standards.

Management of Change (MOC)

  • Determine and review mechanical equipment-related calculations (HVAC, piping, rotary equipment) for modifications and new projects in accordance with Management of Change processes.

Engineering Deliverables & Standards

  • Review and approve all mechanical engineering deliverables up to final issue.
  • Review, update, and maintain mechanical engineering standards in alignment with international and local codes.

Third-Party Interface

  • Interface with engineering consultants, construction contractors, suppliers, vendors, inspection agencies, Q-companies, and local authorities.
  • Evaluate third-party contractors and ensure designs are fit for purpose.

Technical Support

  • Provide technical input during bid evaluations, detailed design reviews, material requisitions, construction method statements, and pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.

Factory & Site Activities

  • Review and witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
  • Conduct site visits to verify contractor compliance with QA/QC requirements.
  • Inspect completed installations and issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required.

Design Reviews & Risk Studies

  • Participate in design review meetings, value engineering studies, risk assessments, and HAZOP/HAZAN sessions.

Policies, Safety & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
  • Adhere to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, cost optimization, and productivity enhancement in line with international best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8–12 years of total professional experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Proven experience across Concept, FEED, and Detailed Engineering phases.
  • Strong knowledge of international mechanical and piping engineering codes and standards.
  • Experience working with EPC contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies.

The successful candidate will ensure all mechanical and piping engineering deliverables meet required safety, quality, environmental, and engineering standards and are fit for purpose.
