Senior PowerBuilder Developer / Application Analyst

Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Senior PowerBuilder Developer to maintain, enhance, and support our mission-critical financial applications. The ideal candidate is a full-stack expert in the PowerBuilder/Sybase/SQL Server ecosystem, capable of managing complex legacy systems while contributing to future modernization initiatives. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and integrity of our core applications that underpin key business operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Application Maintenance & Support: Serve as the primary technical owner for legacy applications built in PowerBuilder. Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
• Enhancement & New Development: Design, code, test, and deploy enhancements and new modules for existing PowerBuilder applications based on business requirements.
• Database Development: Write, optimize, and maintain complex stored procedures, triggers, and functions in Sybase ASE and MS SQL Server (T-SQL). Experience with Oracle (PL/SQL) is a major plus.
• Performance Tuning: Proactively identify and resolve application and database performance bottlenecks.
• System Analysis: Collaborate with business analysts and end-users to gather requirements, document business logic, and propose effective technical solutions.
• Modernization & Integration: Assist in projects to integrate legacy applications with modern systems via APIs (REST/SOAP) and participate in data migration and application modernization planning.

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience: 10+ years of professional experience in software development.
• PowerBuilder: 7+ years of hands-on development with PowerBuilder 12.x or later. Deep knowledge of the PowerBuilder Foundation Classes (PFC).
• Database Expertise:
• • Expert-level proficiency in Sybase ASE and MS SQL Server.
  • Strong command of T-SQL and/or PL/SQL, including advanced stored procedure development and performance tuning.
• Data Modeling: Strong understanding of relational database design and data modeling principles.
• Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical and debugging skills with a proven ability to support complex, business-critical systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Appeon PowerBuilder (2019, 2022+) and its modernization tools (e.g., C# migration, REST API generation).
• Development experience with C# (.NET), VB.NET, or other modern web technologies preferred (Angular/React).
• Experience in the Financial Services or Insurance industry.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field.
