Position Summary
Valaurum is growing rapidly, and we are looking to hire a full-time Senior Print R & D Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the R & D department. The position works closely with Design, Marketing, Print, Metallization, and Accounting to develop new products, production processes, equipment, and features. They will also be responsible for introducing these innovations to print production teams to ensure output, operating conditions, resources, and customer priority. This is a supervisory position and reports to the Director of Production.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage development of new products and form factors in terms of print and conversion equipment and techniques.
- Oversee translation of new products from design team to print team, ensuring beautiful, high-quality results that exceed the expectations of our customers.
- Suggest, evaluate, specify and qualify new production equipment that falls under the print production remit.
- Test and perfect new processes for print production.
- Manage production of SOPs for existing and new production processes and products.
- Manage prepress and ensure accurate and timely workflow to print production, avoiding mistakes and improving those processes.
- Works closely with Design Team, Director of Production, Planning Manager, Print Manager on new processes, technologies, and R&D projects.
- Timely oversee the delivery of development projects and orders, troubleshooting problems and improving production processes.
- Manage project manager, prepress employees, and other employees as needed.
- Oversee the documentation of experiments and processes
- Plan (NPI) sequence of jobs and assignment of duties to project manager and prepress team.
- Schedule research and development activities alongside production to make sure that both are completed in a timely manner
- Initiates actions to mitigate risks associated with delays associated with design, approved expedited requests.
- Facilitates New Product Development (NPD) activities including scheduling of new product launch, inventory ramp-up, and phase-out of obsolete product.
- Participates in Continuous Improvement (CI) projects.
- Provides weekly R&D KPI’s updates to the Director of Production.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree or equivalent in Manufacturing or Printing.
- 5+ years’ extensive knowledge of print and conversion processes.
- Thorough understanding of Valaurum processes and unique aspects of our products.
- Ability to manage team to both achieve production results and improve processes.
- Ability to work with outside vendors and stakeholders throughout the company to ensure timely project deliverables.
- Sage 100 experience preferred.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams.
- Able to manage multiple projects and deliverables at a given time.
- Experience with project management software (Basecamp or similar).
- Highly proficient with Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Proficiency with print prepress management.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Advanced problem solving and analytical skills
- Can work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Work Environment
- Exposure to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration
- Moderate noise level (hearing protection not required)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend throughout the shift
- Frequently lift or move items up to 50 pounds
- Visual acuity including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment

Pay: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
