Senior Process Development Welding Engineer (Laser, Electron Beam, TIG & Laser Additive)

Division: Engineering

Department: Process Development

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Salary: $40 + per hour based on experience.

Summary: Work closely with customers to develop and implement new products, managing the transition from research and development to full production. Responsibilities include tooling design, establishing and validating welding parameters, implementing production equipment, developing documentation packages, and training manufacturing operators on new processes.

Education/Experience:

A bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline is preferred. Ten or more years of hands-on experience with welding processes is also preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include the following: other duties may be assigned.

  • Design weld tooling to accurately and efficiently locate and secure parts for welding.
  • Manage and support a large part-number base across development and production programs.
  • Work with sourcing to establish purchased components supply chain, select vendors for custom-fabricated components, including cost, availability, and functionality.
  • Work closely with customers to ensure requirements are clearly understood and successfully met.
  • Develop and maintain welding process documentation using manufacturing software, including work instructions, weld schedules, and engineering change notices.
  • Support the Sales Department during the quoting process by evaluating and communicating cycle times, non‑recurring engineering costs, tooling costs, and process maps.
  • Actively support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Travel to customer sites as required to support development and production activities.
  • Understand, adhere to, and support the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Collaborate with upper management on strategic initiatives, including evaluation of new equipment, technologies, and customer opportunities.
  • Operate production equipment as is needed to support manufacturing schedules.

Language Ability:

Read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, and or peers.

Math Ability:

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, design software (SolidWorks preferred), internet software, and manufacturing software (Visual ERP preferred). Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software experience preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and communicate verbally.
