Microsoft Calendar – Time and Places is a core team within Microsoft 365, focused on redefining how people manage time, coordinate schedules, and connect across organizations. As a Senior Product Designer, you will define specific product needs based on user insights to ideate and define [KF1] solutions that meet user needs. You will create and develop design concepts and specifications that optimize the emotional and functional experience of a product. You will focus on end-to-end user experiences, empathizing and balancing experiences with business and technical tradeoffs. You will produce visual designs from concept through delivery and sustainment, support interaction designs for software-based experiences, and partner with internal development teams, product teams and design groups to research and analyze customer feedback for incorporation into product enhancements, new product designs and overall design language and strategy.

Responsibilities-
AI-Augmented Design Workflow: Integrate AI tools daily to accelerate ideation, content generation, prototyping, and iteration. Explore agentic workflows, adaptive interfaces, and emerging human-AI interaction patterns. Translate ambiguous AI concepts into tangible prototypes that communicate real system behaviors.

Design Excellence: Understand the behaviors, motivations, and needs of our customers to develop and deliver relevant and impactful experiences. In-depth understanding of Design Systems and how to deliver impactful experiences within those constraints.

Product thinking: Enthusiastically seeking to understand the broader context in which a product exists, including its users, market, and business goals. This means going beyond visual craft to consider how design decisions impact user experience, drive business outcomes, and solve real-world problems.

Design Leadership: Provides guidance to the team of product designers. Ensures full understanding of the original design and vision, and links to established problem and/or goal. Influences those outside of design.

Experience Vision: Envision the future AI vision of the product, aligned with user needs, business objectives, and technical requirements, to ensure a seamless and engaging user experience.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will interact with research, product managers, engineers, and executive stakeholders to define, iterate, and implement new and existing product features, ensuring alignment with business, technical, and user requirements. You will work with user researchers to coordinate testing efforts, interpret test results, and incorporate results into design efforts. Participate in and contribute to foundational research.

Influence Through Storytelling: Use narrative structure, data, and visual metaphors to influence decisions. Tailor communication for executives, engineers, and cross-functional teams—clearly articulating tradeoffs, opportunities, and rationale.

Compelling Communication & Storytelling: Present design concepts and decisions to cross functional partners and stakeholders, articulating design rationale clearly and effectively.
- Mentorship: Foster a culture of creativity and innovation through mentorship and collaboration with other designers.
A portfolio review presentation is expected as part of the interview process for this role. Your presentation should showcase your work experience and demonstrate your design and storytelling skills, along with your authentic interest for the space through compelling communication.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design.

OR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design.

OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).

Experience designing and prototyping in Figma.

Experience with using After Effects.

Hands-on experience using AI-assisted design workflows (e.g., generating variations, refining concepts, prototyping system behaviors, or creating content with AI tools).

Ability to translate AI capabilities into meaningful product scenarios, identifying where AI enhances user value and simplifying complex behaviors into intuitive experiences.
Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design.

OR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design.

OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).

4+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process.

Experience designing for growth, where design solutions are evaluated based on usage, growth, or retention metrics.

Experience that demonstrates proven ability to advocate for design thinking, effectively influence design outcomes, discover problems and tackle them in fast-paced environments.

Experience designing next-generation interaction patterns involving agents, proactive systems, reasoning models, and adaptive interfaces.

Ability to build medium- to high-fidelity prototypes that model real AI behavior, system responses, or end-to-end flows.

Experience collaborating with engineering on data flows, system behaviors, and feasibility of AI-driven features.
