Senior Project Estimator

Job Overview

The Sr. Project Estimator (Heavy Civil) is responsible for leading and executing the full-cycle pre-construction phase, focusing on preparing complete, accurate, and competitive hard bid estimates for complex/high-value heavy civil projects.

This role requires specialized analysis for scopes including deep foundations, heavy utility and deep excavation, pump stations, wastewater treatment plants, and complex underground construction.

Duties & Responsibilities

Estimating & Analysis

• Lead the preparation of accurate, timely, and complete hard bid estimates for complex heavy civil projects.
• Conduct detailed quantity take-offs, focusing heavily on deep excavations, shoring, structural elements, and heavy utility installations.
• Interpret and analyze geotechnical reports and LiDAR data to accurately determine excavation classifications (e.g., rock types), methods, and associated costs.
• Read, interpret, and cross-reference civil, structural, and pipe drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Analyze costs associated with equipment, materials, labor, subcontracts, and general conditions.

Systems & Technology

• Utilize AGTEK for quantity take-offs and earthwork analysis.
• Utilize Bluebeam for document review, annotation, and measurement verification.
• Prepare detailed cost models and bid summaries using advanced Excel formulas and functions.
• Maintain accurate records of all project data, bids, quotes, and documentation throughout the pre-construction phase.

Project Coordination

• Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate competitive proposals from subcontractors and vendors.
• Collaborate to ensure constructability is integrated into the estimate and to facilitate a smooth project turnover.
• Visit job sites to assess existing conditions, logistics, and scope verification.
• Maintain a deadline-driven approach, ensuring all required project deliverables are submitted on time.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 7 – 10+ years of direct experience estimating heavy civil projects (deep excavation, water/wastewater treatment plants, heavy underground utility, shoring, and deep foundations.). Prior experience or a strong understanding of the Project Manager role is also preferred.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar field is preferred.
• Project Specifications: Expert-level ability to interpret detailed civil, structural, and pipe drawings alongside geotechnical and LiDAR reports to accurately assess rock formations and excavation conditions.
• Systems & Software: Strong proficiency using AGTEK, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas and functions).
• Mindset: A disciplined self-starter who takes ownership, thrives under deadline pressure, and excels in a fast-paced environment.
• Location: Ability to work in-office full-time at either the Smyrna, GA or Savannah, GA office location. This role is not eligible for remote or hybrid arrangements.
• Other: Must be authorized to work in the US, possess a valid driver’s license with a clean MVR, and pass a pre-employment drug screening/physical.

Pay: From $120,000.00 per year
