Position : Senior Protection Engine er

Reports/ Supports

Reports to: Department Head (Electrical) at Muscat MEC office . Work Location : Mumbai/Chennai/ Muscat.

• Supports; Senior. Protection Engineer and Electrical Design Engineers
• Co-ordinate within Electrical team on the Protection Design of various projects.

Job Summary

• Protection Engineer as per PDO specification requirement and OETC ,OQ & OXY etc .
• To work in all protection jobs and supporting the design team for the smooth execution.

Main competencies & capabilities required

• Proficient knowledge of Shell Standards, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), OETC Standard, Oxy & OQ Standards , IEC and IEEE for Power system studies and Protection system design as per PDO standard SP 1107.
• Working knowledge of Relay setting calculations for various protections like Unit protections for transformers, Motor feeders (Induction & Synchronous), Generators, OHLs / Cables (Distance &Pilot Wire Differential protection), Bus bar protection, O/C & E/F relay coordination.
• Working knowledge of different make protection relays/releases and its software, generally GE, SIEMENS, ABB, Reyrolle, P&B, SEL, L&T Feeder Vision relays. The make of releases involved are generally Schneider, ABB, L&T and EATON.
• CT & VT Sizing calculations preparation for various projects of PDO and other clients of various relays.
• Carry out the O/C & E/Fettings of Nulec/ENTEC make PMRs located on the 33kV OHLs.
• Power system study models design for all areasusing Digislent, EDSA and ETAP software.
• Conducting Load flow, short-circuit studies and Motor Starting studies of several projects in DigSilent, EDSA and ETAP Software.
• Harmonic analysis and mitigation. Dynamic Motor starting study using Digsilent software.
• Preparation support of key project drawings (PMD, BLD,CT/VT Calculations, MTO etc) with respect to protection requirements during design stage.
• Review of different vendor schematics (415V, 6.6kV,11kV and 33kV, 132KV, 400KV) which includes power / transformer feeders, OHL / Cable feeders, motor feeders and Generators and

approving the drawings as per the client requirements.

• Completion of the working the specified time schedule defined up to client satisfaction and co-ordinating with the site team for the smooth implementation of settings on time.
• Attending the site quires andreplying on timesupporting the team to commission as per scheduled time.
• Attending the internal meetings and coordinating with the project team for the successful completion of the Project on time.
• Attending the protection status review meetings with the clients and when required.
• PMC support Protection Engineer for protection related deliverables.
• Evaluating offers of LV / MV switchgear vendors / DG vendors, transformer vendors and relay vendors.
• Active participation with the client in analyzing the site trip incidents.
• Training young Omani Engineers on protection system

Additional technical competencies & capabilities desired but not essential

• Modelling of Electrical Systems using DigSilent, EDSA, ETAP software for system studies.
• Working knowledge of Other Majorclients involved in doing the protection co-ordination studies are Daleel Petroleum, Occidental of Oman , OETC, OQ and Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company SAOC.

Quality/HSE

• Follows Clients and MEC quality standards.
• Reviews Customer complaints and addresses them effectively in the design process.

Proposals

• Reviews enquiry and prepares CTRs,TQs, Scope of work, Assumptions and deviations related to protection.

Planning & Scheduling

• Provides input on Project schedules for proposals and Detail design

Contracting & Procurement

• Identifies needs for sub-contracts and proposes collaboration with other contractors/Sub-contractors, if required

Resources

• Identifies Human, Hardware & Software resource requirements & training needs Tools

Keeps abreast of development in DigSilent, etc. newer versions

Job Requirements

Language:

• Good command on spoken and written English

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

Professional Experience:

• At least 7 to 10 years of experience with the T&D and PDO/ Non- PDO clients.
