We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Pump Technician to join our team. This individual will be responsible for the inspection, repair, rebuilding, and testing of industrial pumps in a shop environment. The Senior Pump Technician will serve as a technical expert, providing leadership, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring all work meets high standards of quality, safety, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Disassemble, inspect, diagnose, repair, and reassemble a wide range of industrial pumps, including centrifugal, vertical turbine, split-case, gear, diaphragm, and submersible pumps.
- Conduct failure analysis and document findings to identify root causes of pump issues.
- Perform precision repairs including machining, fitting, balancing, and alignment of pump components.
- Rebuild pumps to OEM specifications or better, ensuring proper tolerances and clearances are achieved.
- Conduct hydrostatic and performance testing on repaired equipment.
- Maintain accurate service records, repair documentation, and job reports.
- Mentor and train junior technicians on proper pump repair practices and shop safety.
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards, safety procedures, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and field service teams to support customer needs and ensure timely job completion.
- Keep shop tools, equipment, and work area clean, safe, and organized.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on experience repairing and rebuilding industrial pumps in a shop setting.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Knowledge of OEM standards, tolerances, and precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
- Familiarity with balancing, machining, welding, and other precision repair processes.
- Ability to conduct failure analysis and provide detailed repair recommendations.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multiple pump brands (Goulds, Flowserve, Sulzer, ITT, Gorman-Rupp, etc.).
- Knowledge of seal and bearing installation and failure modes.
- Supervisory or lead technician experience in a repair shop environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move components up to 50 lbs. (heavier with assistance).
- Standing, bending, and working with tools for extended periods.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
