Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take a lead role in managing the commercial and contractual aspects of ongoing construction projects. The successful candidate will oversee variations, payments, claims, cost control, and contract administration to ensure the company’s financial and contractual interests are protected throughout the project lifecycle.

The role requires excellent knowledge of FIDIC contracts, strong negotiation abilities, analytical expertise, and the capability to handle complex commercial issues while coordinating with consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.

Key ResponsibilitiesVariation Management

  • Review and assess variation submissions from contractors and consultants.
  • Conduct detailed cost and time impact evaluations of variation orders.
  • Negotiate variation valuations within approved budgets.
  • Ensure variations are documented and approved as per internal procedures.

Payment & Valuation

  • Review and verify interim payment applications, including measurements and progress validation.
  • Prepare and certify interim and final payments in line with contract provisions.
  • Monitor cash flow and forecast expenditure to match project budgets.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payment processing to safeguard employer interests.

Cost Control & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and update project cost reports, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Track expenditure vs. approved budgets and identify potential cost overruns.
  • Advise management on cost risks, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.
  • Submit monthly commercial and financial progress reports.

Contract Administration

  • Administer construction contracts (FIDIC or equivalent) from inception to completion.
  • Ensure compliance with contract provisions, company policies, and governance procedures.
  • Maintain complete and accurate contract documentation and correspondence.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8–10 years of experience in a similar role within an engineering consultancy.
  • Professional certification (e.g., MRICS, AIQS, PQS) is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of FIDIC and contract management principles.
  • Fluent in English; Arabic knowledge is an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and technical skills.
  • Highly organized, process-driven, and capable of managing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments.
  • Strong ethics, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
