About the Role

LANL (Los Alamos National Laboratory) is seeking a Senior Radiation Protection Specialist to support the design, construction, startup, and operational readiness of complex, high-hazard nuclear facility systems and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory's TA-55 / PF-4 plutonium facility. In this role, you'll serve as the technical authority on Radiation Protection - guiding project teams, engineers, and construction crews in maintaining safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence in one of the nation's most demanding nuclear environments.

This is a senior-level, high-influence role for a radiation protection professional with deep DOE Category II or NRC nuclear facility experience who is ready to provide expert-level guidance and independent technical assessments on mission-critical national security projects.

Mandatory Requirements - Must Meet All to Be Considered

  • Demonstrated experience in Radiation Protection - candidates without this will not be considered
  • Experience supporting construction activities in a DOE Category II nuclear facility or NRC nuclear facility - candidates without this will not be considered
  • Minimum 5 years of directly applicable experience in Radiation Protection and/or work planning in a DOE Category II nuclear facility - candidates without this will not be considered
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance

What You'll Do

  • Manage daily activities supporting design, construction, startup, and operations/maintenance of complex, high-hazard nuclear facility systems and projects
  • Provide technical expertise in Radiation Protection, offering recommendations to project design, work control, and construction teams
  • Conduct independent reviews and technical assessments in specialized areas to ensure project safety, compliance, and performance
  • Interface with management personnel and customer representatives to communicate project status and technical recommendations
  • Develop and enforce work standards and operational practices for nuclear facility activities
  • Coordinate with functional organizations and project teams to ensure successful project execution
  • Provide leadership support by assigning schedules, reviewing work quality, and communicating goals and policies to project personnel
  • Support construction and project progress tracking, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks
  • Work in a secure environment requiring unescorted and A-Level access at TA-55 / PF-4

What You Bring

Required:

  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance
  • 8+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years of directly applicable experience in Radiation Protection and/or work planning in a DOE Category II nuclear facility
  • Experience supporting Radiation Protection programs in a regulated nuclear environment
  • Experience supporting construction activities within a DOE Category II or NRC nuclear facility
  • Ability to work in a secure environment requiring unescorted and A-Level access
  • Ability to support work at LANL TA-55 / PF-4 and follow associated operational protocols

Preferred:

  • Experience in DOE plutonium facilities
  • U.S. Nuclear Navy experience
  • Strong knowledge of Conduct of Operations
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong time management and progress-tracking abilities

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science preferred
  • AA, BAS, BS, or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant Radiation Protection experience also considered
  • 8 years of relevant experience including 5 years directly supporting Radiation Protection or work planning in a DOE Category II nuclear facility
