Senior Resident Engineer

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer (SRE) for Hotels Construction, who will be the lead on site representative of the Construction Supervision Consultant. The SRE will be responsible for the overall technical supervision, quality assurance and progress monitoring of large scale hotel development projects. The SRE will lead a multi disciplinary site supervision team, ensuring that all construction works are executed in strict accordance with contract documents, specifications, drawings, quality standards, safety regulations and project timelines, with a particular focus on the unique requirements and high quality finishes inherent in hotel developments. This role requires extensive experience in complex building projects, particularly in the hospitality sector, and a strong ability to manage stakeholders and deliver exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Team Management
    Lead, mentor and manage the on site supervision team, including Resident Engineers, Assistant Resident Engineers and Site Inspectors across Civil, Structural, Architectural, MEP and FF&E disciplines.
    Allocate tasks, monitor performance and ensure effective coordination within the supervision team.
    Foster a proactive and collaborative site environment focused on quality, safety and project delivery.
  • Construction Supervision & Quality Assurance
    Act as the primary technical point of contact for the client, contractor and other consultants on site.
    Oversee and direct all aspects of construction supervision, ensuring compliance with design drawings, specifications, contractual requirements and applicable building codes.
    Conduct regular and thorough inspections of all construction activities, including civil, structural, architectural finishes and complex MEP systems.
    Pay meticulous attention to the quality of finishes, detailing and aesthetics critical for hotel brand standards and guest experience.
    Review and approve contractor's shop drawings, material submittals, method statements and samples, ensuring they meet project requirements and design intent.
    Witness and approve site tests (concrete, steel, soil, MEP commissioning) and ensure proper documentation.
    Implement and enforce the project's QA/QC plan, identifying and addressing non conformances promptly.
    Monitor the installation and integration of FF&E to ensure compliance with design and quality standards.
  • Project Progress & Schedule Management
    Monitor the contractor's progress against the approved project schedule.
    Identify potential delays, assess impact and recommend corrective actions to the Project Director.
    Review and verify contractor's progress reports and payment applications.
    Attend and contribute to regular site meetings (progress, technical, coordination) with the client, contractor and other stakeholders.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance
    Ensure strict adherence to project specific and statutory HSE regulations on site.
    Monitor the contractor's implementation of their safety plan and conduct regular safety walk throughs.
    Report any safety incidents or concerns to the Project Director and ensure appropriate measures are taken.
  • Contract Administration & Documentation
    Assist in the review and evaluation of contractor claims, variations and change orders.
    Maintain comprehensive and accurate site records, daily diaries, progress photographs, inspection reports and meeting minutes.
    Ensure proper documentation of all communication, instructions and decisions made on site.
    Review and approve as built drawings and operation & maintenance manuals.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
    Prepare and submit regular progress reports, technical reports and ad hoc reports to the Project Director and client.
    Maintain effective communication channels with all project stakeholders, including the client, contractor, designers and specialist consultants.
    Proactively identify and resolve technical issues and conflicts on site, escalating complex matters to the Project Director as needed.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related construction management field from a recognized university. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Professional Registration: Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent accreditation (e.g., P.Eng, CEng) is highly desirable.
Required Experience
  • Overall Experience: Minimum of 20 years of progressive experience in construction supervision and project management for large scale building projects.
  • Hotels Experience: At least 10 years of direct and significant experience as a Resident Engineer or Senior Resident Engineer on hotel construction projects (luxury hotels, resorts, mixed use developments with a significant hotel component).
  • Consultancy Experience: Proven experience working for a Construction Supervision Consultant or Project Management Consultant firm.
Required Skills Technical Expertise
  • Thorough knowledge of construction methods, materials, and techniques across all disciplines.
  • In depth understanding of building codes, regulations and international standards.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, specifications and contract documents.
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems, particularly their integration and commissioning in hotel environments.
  • Familiarity with FF&E procurement, installation and quality control processes.
Project Management Skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Risk identification and mitigation.
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation and presentation skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong stakeholder management abilities, capable of interacting effectively with clients, contractors, designers and authorities.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism and ethical conduct.
Software Proficiency
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with project management software (Primavera P6, MS Project) and CAD software (AutoCAD) for review purposes.
