A senior resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) is a doctor in training who provides direct patient care, performs procedures under supervision, manages emergencies, and offers supervisory support to junior residents and medical students, while ultimately operating under the guidance of an attending physician. Their duties include diagnosing and treating a wide range of women's health issues, performing surgeries like C-sections and hysterectomies, providing prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care, and contributing to patient care planning and documentation. Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care:Providing and overseeing the care of women throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period, as well as managing non-pregnancy-related gynecological conditions.
- Supervision & Training:Mentoring and supervising medical students, junior residents, and other junior medical staff to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Procedural & Surgical Duties:Performing various procedures and surgeries, including routine investigations, pre- and post-operative care, and complex surgical procedures like cesarean sections or hysterectomies.
- Emergency Management:Initiating emergency treatment for seriously ill patients immediately upon admission and making decisions without delay.
- Clinical Management:Conducting patient evaluations, developing and implementing treatment plans based on evidence-based practices, and reviewing investigations and treatment outcomes.
- Documentation:Ensuring clear, daily documentation of the patient's plan of care, from admission through discharge, and preparing comprehensive discharge summaries for consultant authentication.
- Consultation & Collaboration:Collaborating with other specialists and multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
