The Senior Site Cost Quantity Surveyor provides strategic financial oversight for building and civil engineering projects. With a decade of experience, the role shifts from basic technical support to high-level commercial management, ensuring project profitability through expert risk mitigation, contractual mastery, and leadership of the site commercial team.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Cost Management: Lead the established commercial strategy, identifying financial variances early and directing corrective actions to protect project margins.
- Executive Measurement & Valuation: Oversee the valuation of complex work packages and ensure the integrity of monthly progress claims for major subcontractors and the client.
- Expert Subcontractor Procurement: Drive the procurement lifecycle for high value contracts, conducting rigorous tender evaluations and negotiating robust commercial terms.
- Advanced Forecasting: Develop comprehensive "Cost to Complete" (CTC) and "Cost Value Reconciliation" (CVR) reports, providing senior stakeholders with accurate financial projections.
- Complex Variations & Claims: Direct the identification and valuation of scope changes. Lead the preparation and negotiation of Extension of Time (EOT) and prolongation claims.
- Operational Oversight: Establish site wide protocols for material reconciliation and waste management to ensure lean construction practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education & Professional Status:
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Chartership (e.g., MRICS, AIQS) is highly preferred to demonstrate expert-level technical and ethical standards.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of proven experience in construction commercial management, with a track record of delivering high-value, large-scale infrastructure or building projects.
- Technical & Contractual Mastery:
- Deep expertise in FIDIC and other standard forms of contract.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel for financial modeling and specialized QS software such as CostX, Candy (CCS), or PlanSwift.
- Leadership & Analytical Thinking:
- Superior ability to interpret complex technical drawings and identify contractual risks.
- Experience in mentoring junior staff and managing site-based commercial teams.
- Advanced Communication: Master-level negotiation skills with the ability to influence Tier-1 subcontractors, consultants, and client representatives effectively.
