# Software Engineer — Build Technology That Saves Lives
**IMOH (In Memory Of Harry) | Startup | Remote / Flexible**
-----
## Why This Role Exists
In the early 2000, a man named Harry went in for surgery. He was deaf. The hospital couldn’t provide a sign language interpreter. He never came home.
His grandson is building IMOH so that no family ever has to carry that loss again.
**IMOH** is a mission-driven startup developing a hybrid mobile application that connects Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients with certified ASL interpreters — on demand, in real time — directly inside hospital and healthcare settings. Think of it as DoorDash meets Uber, purpose-built for medical interpretation: hospitals request a certified interpreter, and independent contractor interpreters in your area accept and fulfill that request on their own schedule.
We are building technology that sits at the intersection of healthcare access, disability rights, and the gig economy. The Americans with Disabilities Act mandates interpreter access. The system to deliver it, reliably and at scale, doesn’t exist yet. **We’re building it.**
-----
## What You’ll Build
You’ll be joining early — which means your fingerprints will be on everything. Core development areas include:
**Hybrid Mobile Application**
- Cross-platform app (iOS & Android) serving two distinct user types: healthcare facilities and independent interpreter contractors
- Real-time job dispatch, acceptance, and tracking — similar to ride-share driver/rider flows
- In-app communication tools, scheduling, and availability management for interpreters
**Matching & Dispatch Engine**
- Algorithm-driven interpreter matching based on proximity, certification level, specialty (medical ASL, legal, etc.), and availability
- Real-time push notifications and job routing
- Queue management for urgent hospital requests
**Hospital & Facility Portal**
- Web dashboard for hospitals, clinics, and care facilities to request, track, and manage interpreter assignments
- Patient intake integration and request history
- Compliance and documentation features for ADA record-keeping
**Interpreter Contractor Platform**
- Onboarding, credential verification, and certification tracking
- Flexible scheduling and earnings management
- Rating and performance systems
**Backend Infrastructure**
- Scalable cloud architecture to support real-time geolocation, matching, and communications
- Secure, HIPAA-aware data handling for healthcare contexts
- API design for third-party hospital system integrations (EHR/EMR)
-----
## What We’re Looking For
**You might be the right person if you have experience in any of the following:**
- Full-stack development (React Native, Flutter, or similar for mobile; Node.js, Python, or similar for backend)
- Real-time systems, geolocation services, and dispatch/matching algorithms
- Cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and scalable backend architecture
- API development and third-party integrations
- Healthcare tech, HIPAA compliance, or identity/credentialing systems (a strong plus)
- Building two-sided marketplace or gig-economy platforms
**We value:**
- Engineers who want to own problems, not just tickets
- People who can move fast without sacrificing code quality
- Communicators — we’re a small team, clarity matters
- Anyone who has been personally touched by accessibility barriers in healthcare (your lived experience is an asset here)
-----
## What We Offer
- **Equity stake** in a company with a genuine first-mover opportunity in an underserved, regulated market
- **Flexible remote work** — we believe great engineers shouldn’t have to choose between meaningful work and their life
- **Direct impact** — you will talk to Deaf patients, interpreter contractors, and hospital staff. You will know exactly who you’re building for
- **Ground-floor opportunity** — early engineers help shape our culture, our architecture, and our product roadmap
- Competitive compensation commensurate with stage and experience
-----
## The Opportunity
There are roughly 48 million Deaf and hard-of-hearing Americans. Every single one of them has the legal right to interpreter access in a medical setting. The gap between that right and the reality is enormous — and the technology to close it simply does not exist at scale.
IMOH is named for Harry. But it’s being built for every patient who has sat in a hospital room, unable to communicate with their doctor, afraid and unheard.
**If you’re an engineer who wants their work to matter — we’d like to meet you.**

## How to Apply
Send your resume and a brief note (a few sentences is fine) about why IMOH resonates with you to **[your contact email]**.
No cover letter required. We care far more about curiosity and character than credentials.
*IMOH is an equal opportunity employer. We are especially committed to building a team that includes Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and disability community members.*
