Senior Software/System Engineer

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software/System Engineer with deep experience in cloud migration, deployment, and optimization to support mission-critical systems. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong Python development skills, solid DevSecOps practices, and experience building and modernizing applications in secure environments. Prior federal experience is strongly preferred.

This role requires someone who can design, build, secure, and optimize cloud-based solutions while collaborating across engineering, security, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute cloud migration initiatives from on-premises to cloud environments
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable software solutions using Python
  • Implement and manage DevSecOps pipelines to support secure CI/CD delivery
  • Deploy, configure, and optimize cloud infrastructure and applications
  • Support application modernization and refactoring efforts
  • Collaborate with security teams to remediate vulnerabilities and enforce compliance controls
  • Automate infrastructure and deployment workflows using Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Monitor system performance and implement optimization strategies
  • Support containerization and orchestration efforts (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Participate in architecture reviews and technical design sessions
  • Document system designs, processes, and operational procedures

Required Qualifications (Must Have)

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or related field
  • Strong hands-on experience with cloud migration, deployment, and optimization
  • Demonstrated DevSecOps experience (CI/CD, security integration, automated testing)
  • Strong programming skills in Python
  • Solid background in software development and application engineering
  • Experience building or supporting modern applications (web or service-based)
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes or similar)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of system performance tuning and monitoring
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Must be eligible for a Public Trust
  • Must work Tuesdays and Thursdays from the Reston, VA office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting federal government or DoD programs
  • Experience with one or more major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Familiarity with security frameworks (NIST, FedRAMP, STIGs)
  • Experience with microservices architecture
  • Exposure to AI/ML application deployment environments
  • Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.)
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum environments
  • Relevant cloud or security certifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Pay: $130,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
