Senior Staff Accountant

Title: Senior Staff Accountant

Reports To: Controller

Location: Seattle – In Office or Remote – Utah/Idaho

Job Type: Salary; Exempt

Job Time: Full-Time; 40 hours per week

Experience: 4 – 6 years of experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

Job Description: The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for overseeing and executing the day-to-day accounting operations of Columbia Fire. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, payroll processing, compliance with state and federal regulations, and strong internal controls. The Accounting Manager plays a key role in supporting month-end close, managing cash flow processes, and maintaining operational efficiency across accounting functions.

This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple processes simultaneously in a fast-paced service-based environment.

Key Job Responsibilities

Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Provide back up for weekly payroll
  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries
  • Manage 401(k) contributions and benefit deductions
  • Ensure accurate syncing of weekly time entries prior to payroll processing

Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Cash Management

  • Oversee full-cycle Accounts Payable
  • Manage vendor payments and ACH processing
  • Oversee credit card processing, GL coding, and reconciliation
  • Manage the bank matching and reconciliation process
  • Process and record cash receipts
  • Support collections efforts and monitor AR aging

Compliance & Regulatory Reporting

  • Prepare and file sales tax returns
  • Manage business license renewals and compliance
  • Oversee vehicle registrations and fleet management

Financial Reporting & Close Process

  • Assist with month-end close process
  • Prepare journal entries
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Assist with audit preparation and documentation requests

Cross-Functional Support

  • Assist with completing customer and vendor prequalification forms
  • Assist with filing project intents with Washington Labor & Industries
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting functions.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
  • 4 plus years of accounting work experience.
  • Excellent multi-tasker and a self-directed, go-getter.
  • Experience working with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office, and other ERP systems, Acumatica (a plus).
  • Strong organization and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop working relationships with employees, customers, and contractors.
  • Working in a small to mid-size company experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Willingness and aptitude to tackle a wide range of complex challenges.
  • Effective in a collaborative environment.

  • Salary range: $55,000 – $80,000, depending on experience and geographic location (WA, UT, ID)
