Job Title: Senior Staff Nurse – ICU
Department: Nursing
Reports To: Deputy CNO / ICU In-charge
Job Summary
The Senior Staff Nurse (ICU) is responsible for delivering high-quality critical care nursing services to ICU patients, supervising junior nurses, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols, and maintaining safe patient care standards in a high-acuity environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Care
Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill patients requiring ventilator support, invasive monitoring, and life-sustaining interventions.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
Monitor vital signs, neurological status, hemodynamic parameters, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
Administer medications, IV infusions, blood products, and manage central lines, arterial lines, and other invasive devices.
Assist in emergency procedures including CPR, intubation, and code blue management.
2. Clinical Skills & Procedures
Operate and troubleshoot ICU equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, cardiac monitors, and defibrillators.
Perform advanced nursing procedures including catheterization, wound care, suctioning, ABG sampling, and infection control practices.
Ensure accurate documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in EMR or nursing charts.
3. Leadership & Supervision
Guide, support, and supervise junior nurses, nursing assistants, and trainees in the ICU.
Participate in staff allocation, shift planning, and ensure adequate staffing coverage.
Conduct bedside teaching, clinical orientation, and skill development sessions for junior staff.
4. Quality & Safety
Ensure strict adherence to ICU protocols, infection control standards, and hospital policies.
Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and incident reporting.
Maintain safe medication administration practices and ensure availability of emergency drugs and supplies.
5. Communication & Coordination
Communicate effectively with consultants, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams regarding patient condition and care plans.
Provide emotional support and clear communication to patient families within ICU guidelines.
Participate in patient handovers using SBAR or other standardized formats.
6. Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain accurate records of equipment checks, inventory, and supply management.
Assist the ICU in-charge in policy implementation, training programs, and accreditation activities.
Ensure proper maintenance of ICU environment, cleanliness, and readiness for emergencies.
Qualifications & Requirements
GNM / BSc Nursing / MSc Nursing with valid nursing registration.
3–5+ years of ICU experience (critical care experience mandatory).
Strong clinical judgment and ability to handle emergencies independently.
Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
Knowledge of ICU protocols, NABH standards, and patient safety guidelines.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
