Senior System Engineer

The Opportunity

The Senior System Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a stable, secure, and scalable IT infrastructure that supports MetLife’s business operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring high system availability, operational resilience, and business continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, deployment, and ongoing optimization of virtualization infrastructure using technologies such as VMware, Hyper‑V, or similar platforms.
  • Manage Windows and Linux server environments, including installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee disaster recovery and business continuity solutions, including backup strategies, failover mechanisms, and regular disaster recovery testing.
  • Monitor system performance, apply patches and updates, and ensure systems meet defined security and availability standards.
  • Provide basic networking support, including configuration and troubleshooting of switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional IT and business teams to ensure seamless integration of systems and services.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and changes to ensure compliance with IT standards and policies.
  • Support capacity planning and resource optimization to enhance system performance and scalability.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology , or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Strong hands‑on experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V, or similar) to design and support enterprise environments.
  • Proven expertise in Windows and Linux Server administration , including troubleshooting and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery solutions , data backup strategies, and data protection practices.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts , including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and VPNs.
  • Familiarity with storage solutions (SAN, NAS) and their integration with virtualization platforms.
  • Experience using monitoring tools and analyzing system performance.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to remain effective under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in team environments.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications such as VMware VCP, Microsoft MCSA/MCSE, CompTIA Network+, ITIL, CCNA, or CCNP.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS).
  • Experience with container platforms such as AKS, Docker, or OKE.
  • Scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Bash, or similar tools.
