We are a well-established New York–based defense litigation firm seeking a Senior Trial Attorney to lead complex matters from inception through verdict. This role is designed for a seasoned litigator with significant courtroom experience, sound judgment, and the ability to mentor junior attorneys while delivering exceptional client outcomes.

The ideal candidate is strategic, trial-ready, and comfortable managing high-stakes cases in state and federal courts throughout New York.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead trial counsel on complex defense litigation matters, including pre-trial strategy, motions, trial, and post-trial proceedings
  • Manage all phases of litigation: pleadings, discovery, depositions, expert preparation, motion practice, mediation, and trial
  • Appear regularly in New York State and Federal courts, including Supreme Court and District Courts
  • Develop and execute case strategy in collaboration with partners and clients
  • Conduct and defend depositions, argue motions, and examine witnesses at trial
  • Draft and review substantive legal filings, including dispositive motions, trial briefs, and appellate-related materials as needed
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior attorneys and support staff
  • Maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor on risk, strategy, and resolution options
  • Participate in business development, client presentations, and firm initiatives as appropriate

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice in New York and in good standing
  • 10+ years of defense litigation experience, with substantial trial experience
  • Proven track record as first or second chair at trial
  • Experience handling complex civil litigation matters (e.g., professional liability, employment, commercial, insurance defense, or similar)
  • Strong legal writing, oral advocacy, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters independently and lead teams effectively
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment

Preferred Experience

  • Federal court experience in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York
  • Experience with high-exposure or bet-the-company litigation
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience within a litigation practice
