Role purpose

Design simple, trustworthy, and accessible experiences for complex maternal-health journeys — from onboarding and longitudinal risk screens to in-app care plans, content, and clinician workflows.

What you’ll own / Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end product design for core flows (onboarding, screenings, care plans, content discovery, notifications, provider/payer dashboards).
  • Run user research and usability testing with pregnant/postpartum users, clinicians, and payer stakeholders. Translate findings into product decisions.
  • Produce high-fidelity UI, interactive prototypes, and detailed developer handoffs (component specs, tokens, accessibility notes).
  • Build, maintain, and evangelize a scalable design system (tokens, components, patterns) that maps directly to front-end (Tailwind/React/Next.js) implementation.
  • Design data visualizations and health insights that communicate risk, progress, and actions clearly and compassionately.
  • Ensure accessibility (WCAG) and privacy-by-design; collaborate with engineering and compliance to meet HIPAA/GDPR requirements.
  • Collaborate daily with PMs, engineers, clinical advisors, data scientists, and marketing to align UX with medical accuracy and business goals.
  • Create measurable UX hypotheses and run A/B tests or qualitative validation to iterate.
  • Mentor junior designers, own design reviews, and push continuous improvement in process (research → design → analytics → iteration).

Required experience & skills

  • 5+ years product design experience with at least 2 years in healthcare / regulated products (digital health, medical devices, telehealth, clinical tools).
  • Strong portfolio with case studies demonstrating research, flow design, accessibility, and measurable outcomes (engagement, conversion, task time, error reduction).
  • Deep UX research skills: interviews, contextual inquiry, usability testing, synthesis, journey mapping.
  • Expert visual & interaction design skills — information architecture, microcopy, hierarchy, motion for clarity.
  • Hands-on with industry tools (Figma, FigJam, Miro) and experience delivering production-ready assets and tokens for developer handoff.
  • Familiar with building and maintaining design systems and component libraries.
  • Solid knowledge of accessibility (WCAG 2.1+) and experience shipping accessible products.
  • Comfort working with clinical stakeholders; ability to translate clinical guidance into plain-language interfaces.
  • Excellent collaboration & communication skills; able to present design decisions to execs, clinicians, and engineers.
  • Strong product instincts and analytic mindset — ability to define success metrics and measure impact.

Preferred / Nice-to-have

  • Prior experience working at a seed-to-Series A health startup.
  • Background designing for maternal health, perinatal care, pediatrics, behavioral health, or chronic-care management.
  • Experience with motion design and micro-interactions that improve comprehension and trust.
  • Familiarity with front-end stacks (React, Next.js, Tailwind) and the constraints of mobile app design.
  • Experience designing clinician/provider dashboards and enterprise features (B2B payer/provider workflows).
  • Knowledge of localization and multi-region compliance (GDPR, HIPAA nuances).
