Benny’s is a neighborhood restaurant in Portland, Maine rooted in Philly-inspired food and a straightforward approach to hospitality: make it good, make it consistent, and make people feel welcome. We care about quality and execution, but we’re not trying to be flashy about it. We’re building a spot that locals rely on — whether that’s a weeknight dinner, a quick bite at the bar, or a place to meet friends.

We’re a small, hands-on team that takes pride in what we’re creating and how we show up for each other. What You’ll Do

As a Server at Benny’s, this role is essential to delivering a memorable dining experience. Reporting to the General Manager, the Server provides attentive, friendly, and professional service to every guest, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of food and beverages. Servers are key contributors to the restaurant’s atmosphere, supporting the team, and upholding Benny’s high standards for hospitality and guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Greet guests warmly and provide menu guidance, answering questions about dishes, drinks, and specials.
• Take accurate food and beverage orders and ensure timely delivery from the kitchen and bar.
• Monitor guest satisfaction throughout the meal, addressing any issues promptly and professionally.
• Maintain thorough understanding of Benny’s complete food and beverage program.
• Provide recommendations for menu items, pairings, and specials to enhance the guest experience.
• Collaborate with the Host, Bartender, and Kitchen staff to ensure smooth service flow.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned tables and service areas.
• Assist in setup and breakdown for service, including table settings and side stations.
• Handle cash, POS, and payment processing accurately.
• Support fellow servers, hosts, and bartenders during busy periods, stepping in to assist where needed.
• Communicate effectively with the kitchen and bar to manage orders, timing, and service adjustments.
• Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment and uphold Benny’s service standards.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience as a server in a high-volume restaurant.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and stay composed in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of POS systems and cash handling procedures.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by restaurant operations.
• Passion for providing exceptional hospitality and creating a memorable guest experience.

Position Details:

This is a full-time position offering a competitive hourly wage, along with participation in an equitable tip pool shared among our service team. Team members also receive earned paid leave in accordance with Maine Earned Paid Leave Law, as well as staff dining discounts at both Benny’s and Ramona’s.
