Floor Manager/Servers need to have unique personal qualities including excellent communication skills as they interact with internal employees of the organization, vendors and clients (the general public). The Floor Manager/Server is the manager in charge when the General Manager or Assistant General Manager are not on the floor. This person needs to think quickly on their feet and act with guests as their priority. Leadership is seen and felt which makes this a very high-profile position as one of the faces of the company. Floor Manager/Servers are responsible for positive guest interactions while serving guests in a friendly and efficient manner. At all times, servers are expected to be attentive to our guest needs and making them feel welcome, comfortable, important and relaxed. Servers are expected to have some basic cooking knowledge.

Duties & Responsibilities

One of the main tasks of the Floor Manager/Server is to put into action the company's vision and mission statements. The Floor Manager/Server is also directly in a position to affect the bottom line by proper execution of “cutting the floor”, reducing labor and keeping costs under control. In unison with keeping costs in line, guest satisfaction is key to the success of the role. No guest should leave unhappy during their time on the floor.

Floor Manager/Server's responsibilities depend greatly on the business; however, in all cases his or her primary duty is to provide good customer service, take orders, and deliver food. In most situations, servers are expected to answer questions regarding the menu. They work closely with other wait staff and the kitchen to ensure the restaurant is operated efficiently.

Interacting with clients for redressing complaints and understanding their requirements is an important aspect of their job profile. They also ensure that work ethics are followed and company policies are adhered to. Preparing reports to appraise the General Manager and the Operations Manager about the functioning of the company is also an important task that the Service Manager undertakes. Lastly, this role may entail performing other duties, as and when, assigned by the restaurant supervisors and/or management.

Additional duties of a Floor Manager/Server may also include:

  • Processing payment
  • Greeting customers
  • Cleaning tables and dining area
  • Prepares the tables, laying out napkins and utensils, making sure the condiments are refilled, performing all other preparation tasks.
  • Staying updated on current menu choices, specialties and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen staff is running out of any items…etc.
  • Handle the table bookings, direct customers to their tables, presenting menus, suggesting dishes, assisting in drink selection, informing customers about food preparation details, communicating specific customer needs to the cooks.
  • Maintaining proper dining experience, delivering items, fulfilling customer needs, offering desserts and drinks, removing courses, replenishing utensils, refilling glasses.
  • Prepare beverages including wine, spirits & beer and properly open and pour wine at the tableside.
  • Obtaining revenues, issuing receipts, accepting payments, returning the change.
  • Performing basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor.
  • Filling in for absent staff as needed & assisting with special events as needed.
  • Greet all guests and owners warmly with an appropriate greeting.
  • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently.
  • Understands and can communicate products and services available at the restaurant.
  • Must have some familiarity with basic cooking skills.
  • Greet customers, make suggestions, answer and present the menu
  • Ensure quality service in the dining room and serve meals
  • Prepare and serve dessert
  • Prepare the bills for beverages and meals ordered, take the cash and make change, and then balance daily transactions
  • Take reservations and greet the take-out counter customers
  • Use sales techniques to retain customers and attract more
  • Apply health regulations relating to cleanliness & apply safety regulations
  • Comply with equipment usage guidelines & with maintenance guidelines for the restaurant
  • Ensure your work area is clean & organize your work and work area professionally
  • Clean and clear the dining room tables
  • Lastly, this role may entail performing other duties, as and when, assigned by the restaurant supervisors and/or management.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

The Floor Manager/Server will embody the resources and knowledge of the set forth management principles, accounting and human resource policies along with state regulations and norms pertaining to the business. They should also have in-depth knowledge of all the company policies and procedures. Floor Manager/Servers should know how to budget company finances and resources. They need to be knowledgeable about ways to promote teamwork and employee morale. A Floor Manager/Server should also have information on team building activities and be a good orator.

The Floor Manager/Server should have through knowledge of the Food and Beverages. Including a wide arrange of culinary techniques, world-class wines, craft spirits and in-depth beer knowledge.

The nature of the job requires them to act as a conduit between upper management and the employees; hence they need to have excellent communication skills. Floor Manager/Servers need good interpersonal skills, as they have to interact with clients to understand their requirements. A Floor Manager/Server should have leadership qualities as they are in charge of employee performance and motivation. They should be adept in conflict resolution skills, as they will be called in to resolve conflicts between employees and management as well as conflict between two employees. Long hours and strenuous days come with the territory.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous serving experience required.
  • Excellent oral communication skills required.
  • Positive interpersonal skills required.
  • Must speak English fluently and be able to write in basic English. License/Qualifications:

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $18.50 per hour
