Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for servicing, maintaining, and troubleshooting water softeners and water treatment equipment at residential and commercial locations. This role focuses on routine maintenance, repairs, diagnostics, and customer support to ensure systems operate efficiently and reliably.
Key Responsibilities
Service & Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance on water softeners and filtration systems (resin cleaning, media replacement, injector cleaning, valve servicing)
- Diagnose and repair issues such as low flow, hard water breakthrough, salt bridging, valve failures, and leaks
- Adjust system settings based on water usage and hardness
- Replace worn or damaged components including valves, seals, injectors, brine tanks, and fittings
Installation Support
- Assist with installation of water softeners, filters, and related equipment when needed
- Verify proper plumbing connections, drain lines, and electrical hookups
- Start up systems and ensure correct programming and operation
Customer Interaction
- Explain system operation and maintenance requirements to customers
- Provide basic water testing and recommendations
- Maintain professional, respectful communication while on site
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete service tickets, maintenance reports, and parts usage accurately
- Document system issues, repairs performed, and follow-up needs
- Communicate recurring problems or equipment failures to management
Inventory & Tools
- Maintain service vehicle inventory of parts and supplies, keep company vehicle clean inside/out. Report any vehicle issues to operations manager
- Track used parts and request replenishment as needed
- Properly maintain tools, testing equipment, and safety gear
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures for plumbing, electrical, and chemical handling
- Comply with company policies and local plumbing codes
- Maintain a clean and organized work area at job sites
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in water treatment, plumbing, or related trade (water softener experience preferred)
- Basic plumbing and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with common control valves (Clack, Fleck, Kinetico preferred)
- Ability to read manuals, schematics, and service documentation
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in confined spaces
Preferred Skills
- Experience servicing residential and commercial water softeners
- Knowledge of water testing and hardness calculations
- Electrical troubleshooting experience (timers, transformers, control boards)
- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills
Work Environment
- Field-based role with daily travel to customer locations
- Exposure to mechanical equipment, water, salt, and chemicals
- Occasional weekend work may be required
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
