About Us:

Since 1991, Troy Products has been designing and manufacturing products for use in vehicle applications with great emphasis on safety, comfort and aesthetics. Our primary markets include public safety agencies (police, sheriff, fire, etc.), federal agencies, military, utilities companies, SWAT and many others. Troy Products offers many standard designs but also works with agencies by designing custom products to meet their specific operational needs.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Sheet Metal Design Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for taking product concepts through the full design cycle—from initial ideas to production-ready documentation—using SolidWorks CAD software. You will apply advanced sheet metal design principles to create efficient, manufacturable components, ensuring alignment with our fabrication capabilities. Hands-on experience with fabrication machinery is highly desirable, as it supports practical, production-focused design decisions. Strong project coordination skills are essential to ensure projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to support the development of new sheet metal products and improve existing designs.
  • Perform preliminary design testing to validate concepts prior to finalizing project deliverables.
  • Design functional products based on project specifications, with emphasis on manufacturability, cost-efficiency, ease of fabrication at each production stage, efficient assembly, and straightforward installation.
  • Create complete CAD drawing packages and accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing.
  • Install prototype designs on vehicles to verify fit, functionality, and ease of installation.
  • Develop clear, detailed installation instructions for both new and existing products.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate technical documentation, including drawings, reports, BOMs, etc.
  • Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to support ongoing projects and operational needs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sheet metal design using SolidWorks, with strong knowledge of sheet metal design best practices and diverse manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with sheet metal machinery and hand tools is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with complex multi-level assemblies and creating detailed CAD drawings.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks PDM for file management and revision control.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems; experience with MieTrak is a plus.
  • Proven track record of continuous skill development and professional growth.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and technical drawings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Typing speed of 40+ WPM with 90%+ accuracy.
  • General computer literacy and understanding of networks is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Associate degree in Engineering, Drafting, or a related field preferred.

Candidates selected for an interview will be required to present sample drawings demonstrating their previous work experience. Additionally, a SolidWorks proficiency test will be conducted as part of the interview process.
